Calcutta High Court directed the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) on Monday to submit the case diary and reply a number of questions asked by the HC by March 28 in connection with the rape and murder in RG Kar case RG Kar Medical College & Hospital last year, as HC started hearing a petition of deceased PGT doctor's parents for further probe in the case. The PGT doctor was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024. Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked a number of questions to the federal agency, asking whether they consider this to be a case of gangrape and if so, who are the suspects in such gangrape. The court has sought a case diary from CBI and the central agency should submit the replies by March 28. The court also questioned CBI if the convicted Sanjay Roy is the sole accused and what are the Sections under which framing the charges have been done. Notably, parents had claimed about involvement of other accused in the case.

Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna's decision to put crucial documents relating to a controversy surrounding alleged discovery of cash from Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma's residence in the public domain and constituting an in-house committee to further inquire into the matter. While senior advocate Sanjay Hegde said the CJI must be commended for enforcing openness and putting things out in the public domain, senior lawyer Indira Jaising expressed satisfaction over the setting up of the in-house inquiry panel and said people should wait for its outcome. Saluting the wisdom of the CJI and other members of the Supreme Court collegium for releasing the inquiry report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala said, «Let the in-house committee make an independent inquiry and submit the report to the chief justice of India for taking appropriate decisions.» Hegde, who described a video of the purported currency-discovery incident as «deeply distressing», said irrespective of the question of innocence or guilt of the judge concerned, the very fact that so much money is ostensibly being seen burnt in proximity to his house raises many questions. «It also tends to lower the image of the judiciary. Irrespective of the question of guilt or innocence, I think a full inquiry and corrective action is required. The chief justice of India must be commended for enforcing openness and putting things out in the public domain.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, while leading the Joint Action Committee meeting, called on all the opposition parties to be united in the protest against the delimitation exercise, which he claimed will weaken the political might of the southern states. During the first meeting called in Chennai on Saturday, Stalin also proposed to form a legal expert committee on the delimitation issue, while stressing the need for a «fair delimitation». The meeting was attended by various political leaders, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das, and Biju Janata Dal leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, among others Urging leaders to take the issue of delimitation to a legal platform, Stalin said, «I appeal to you all to give inputs to take this political thing in a legal way. I propose to form a legal expert committee on this constituency delimitation issue. If we all unitedly protest, only can get us victory.» He added, «Let's unitedly protest and make sure our representation should not get decreased in any situation. Let us all be united and protest till we get fair delimitation.»

Vijender Gupta has nominated 14 MLAs to Municipal Corporation of Delhi for 2025-26. «The Hon'ble Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Vijender Gupta, has nominated 14 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to represent the National Capital Territory of Delhi in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the financial year 2025-2026. These nominations have been made in accordance with Section 3(3)(b)(ii) of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1957,» as per an official release. Speaking on the nominations, Vijender Gupta stated that the appointed MLAs would assist the MCD in budget formulation, civic administration, and urban governance. Their role will be pivotal in addressing sanitation, infrastructure development, and other municipal challenges to improve the quality of life for Delhi residents. Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra has expressed concerns over the rise in customer complaints and urged the top management of banks and non-bank lenders to get directly involved in improving customer services and resolving their grievances. «I suspect that we are not spending enough time on customer service and grievance redressal as a result of which not only are there a large number of complaints being received by banks and NBFCs but in the absence of satisfactory resolution, a large number of them are getting escalated to RBI Ombudsmen,» the governor said Monday in Mumbai at the annual conference of the central bank's Ombudsmen. «I would, therefore, strongly urge all the MD & CEOs, zonal and regional managers and the branch managers to spend some time every week, if not every day on grievance redressal. This is a must. All great CEOs find time to do it,» Malhotra said Monday in Mumbai.

Andhra Pradesh's Capital Region Development Authority and HUDCO inked a Rs 11,000 crore loan agreement on Sunday for the construction of the greenfield capital city, Amaravati, Government sources said. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Undavalli of Guntur district. «HUDCO and CRDA entered into the agreement in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu… As per this deal, HUDCO will extend a loan of Rs 11,000 crore for the capital construction,» said a press release. A Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) board meeting held in Mumbai on January 22 had given a green signal for the loan.

Sanjay Raut recently alleged that Deputy CM Eknath Shinde held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, during which Shinde reportedly expressed grievances against Devendra Fadnavis. Despite the meeting allegedly having only two attendees, Saamana, the newspaper edited by Raut, published the purported conversation verbatim. Raut aimed to suggest that Shinde was scheming against Fadnavis. Senior Border Security Force (BSF) and police officials on Thursday paid their homage to three BSF jawans, who were killed and 11 others injured after the bus in which they were travelling fell into a gorge in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. A BSF spokesman said that senior BSF, Police and Civil Administration officials paid homage to the three slain paramilitary personnel at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal. The three BSF personnel include, Head Constable Surendra Kumar, Constable Bachhu Mondal and Constable Ankul Singh of the 37 Battalion of BSF.

Thus, creation of a common pool of such bankable projects will have multi-fold benefits for the entire ecosystem,» Malhotra said at a seminar on climate change risks and finance organised by the central bank in New Delhi. He stressed upon capacity building and improving technical know-how to better appraise risks in financing projects which use green technologies.

Rupee against the dollar, says a report by Union Bank of India. In the first two months of 2025, the Indian rupee has already depreciated more than half the depreciation happened in all of 2024. By February 28 the Rupee has depreciated by 1.8 per cent against USD, this decline is already more than the 1.5 per cent depreciation seen in 2023 and nearly half of the 3 per cent depreciation recorded in 2024. The report said «change in stance of RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra who stated that the central bank is open to more flexible rupee and will allow it to move freely in tandem with its local peers as against former RBI governor Das who favoured a very stable rupee against the US dollar is also putting pressure on rupee».
