NEW DELHI:Tata Steel Ltd will invest ₹17,408 crore ($2.11 billion) in its Singapore unit, T Steel Holdings Pte Ltd, to fund the restructuring of its struggling UK business as well as repay the debt of its offshore entities.Tata Steel will also be writing off $565 million of existing debt to T Steel, converting it into equity shares, Asia’s oldest steelmaker said in regulatory disclosures on Wednesday. The investment in T Steel, a holding company for the shares of Tata Steel’s overseas subsidiaries, will be done over the course of 2024-25.Tata Steel reported a 65% year-on-year decline in its consolidated profit, to ₹554 crore, for the quarter ended 31 March, missing Street estimates.

Timken Singapore PTE sold shares of Timken India worth 1,956 crore in a block deal on BSE on Tuesday. The promoter sold 50 lakh shares at 3,913.35 apiece. Timken Singapore PTE owned 57.70% stake in the company as of March 31.

The shares are being offered at a floor price of ₹3,550 per share, representing a discount of 10.2% compared to Timken India's closing price of ₹3,951.5 on the NSE on Monday.Spokespersons of Bank of America, which is managing the stake sale, did not respond to Mint's request for comment.Currently, Timken Singapore holds a 57.7% stake in Timken India, which manufactures anti-friction bearings, primarily tapered roller bearings, and mechanical power transmission products for customers in diverse sectors.This is not the first time that Timken India's promoters are exploring a stake sale.

India has recorded a trade deficit, the difference between imports and exports, with nine of its top 10 trading partners, including China, Russia, Singapore, and Korea, in 2023-24, according to official data. The data also showed that the deficit with China, Russia, Korea, and Hong Kong increased in the last fiscal compared to 2022-23, while the trade gap with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Indonesia, and Iraq narrowed. private-equity firm Venturi Partners is considering raising a $75-100 million fund in India to invest in local consumer-focused growth-stage companies, managing director Rishika Chandan said in an interview. The fund, likely to be launched later this year, will be pooled from top family offices in India, Chandan added.“The intention is to give access to Indian families that want to be part of this platform and get access to growth-stage consumer companies because most funds in India [invest mainly in] early-stage [companies]," Chandan said.According to her, there are several India-focused generalist funds investing in growth-stage consumer companies but not many that cater exclusively to families.

AP reported Bangkok's Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital as saying.According to the report, 27 people remained in intensive care, and a 73-year-old British man died after the flight ran into bad turbulence over the Andaman Sea.
