Russian President Vladimir Putin promises Africa 'total support' in anti-West pitch to continent
Russia is seeking to woo African countries this weekend at a summit in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, with President Vladimir Putin promising the continent «total support». Facing isolation in the West following its full-scale offensive against Ukraine, Moscow has tried to build new partnerships across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, promoting itself as a bulwark against what it calls Western domination on the international arena. «Our country will continue to provide total support to our African friends in different sectors,» Putin said in a speech read out by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to other foreign ministers and senior officials.

Russian drone attack hits Danube port infrastructure: Ukraine
Danube River port infrastructure that is critical to Ukraine's grain exports, injuring at least two people in the attack on southern parts of the Odesa region on Sunday, Ukrainian officials said. The Danube has become Ukraine's main route for exporting grain since July, when Russia quit a U.N. and Turkey-brokered deal that had given safe passage to Kyiv's exports of grains, oilseeds and vegetables oils via the Black Sea. Sunday's attack took place the day before Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan are due to hold talks in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi. Turkey has been pressing to revive the grain deal. Ukraine's South Military Command said on social media that at least two civilians were injured in the early morning attack on what it called «civil infrastructure of the Danube». The Ukrainian Air Force said air defence systems shot down 22 of the 25 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Russia.

Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to meet amid grain deal hopes
Vladimir Putin will host his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, the Kremlin said, amid hopes the two can restore a deal ensuring safe passage for grain shipments. Russia pulled out from the UN-backed grain agreement that Turkey helped broker in July, effectively revoking safe navigation for civilian ships sailing through the Black Sea. «Negotiations will indeed take place in Sochi on Monday,» Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday. Moscow's announcement came shortly after Ukraine said two more ships were sailing through a temporary corridor Kyiv had set up to ensure safe navigation. «Two vessels are sailing through a temporary corridor from Ukraine's Black Sea ports to the Bosphorus,» Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said on social media.

After Seizing Western Assets, Russia Puts Chechen Official, Local in charge
Russia has appointed Chechnya’s agriculture minister as the new head of Danone’s business in the country and tapped a Russian businessman to run Carlsberg’s operations there, cementing control of the Western multinationals’ Russian assets days after they were seized. President Vladimir Putin on Sunday signed a decree that effectively placed the local operations of the French food company and Danish brewing giant under government management. Russia’s unexpected seizure of assets belonging to two of the world’s largest consumer-goods companies marked an escalation in economic hostilities with the West amid the war in Ukraine.
