Asset managers have lined up several new fund offers (NFO) unfazed by the outcome of the general election results on June 4. As many as 12 new fund offers are open or will be launched in the next fortnight. Motilal Oswal launched a multicap fund and JM Financial has started a small-cap fund to complete their product basket in the diversified fund space. Many fund houses are launching thematic funds that include the likes of financial services, manufacturing and special opportunities. Mahindra Manulife and Baroda BNP Paribas are launching manufacturing funds.

In February, Peak XV Partners invested in premium luggage maker Mokobara, while another investment firm Lighthouse picked a stake in Safari Industries in March. Separately, early-stage home and kitchen products brand Solara has raised capital from Livspace cofounder Ramakant Sharma and others, amid a flurry of deals across segments from luggage to beauty, wellness, pet care, jewellery, food and beverages.

UPS Cooper WhatsApp reports DICGC posts 17% growth in insurance fund
Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), reported a 17% increase in its deposit insurance fund in FY24. The Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF), which is crucial for settling claims of depositors from liquidated or amalgamated banks, climbed to ₹1,98,310 crore as of March 31, 2024, up from ₹1,69,602 crore the previous year.

Reserve Bank of India, on behalf of the government, accepted bids that represented only a fraction of the total amount of bonds that the Centre had offered to repurchase at a scheduled auction. At Thursday’s buyback auction of government bonds, the RBI accepted bids worth Rs 5,111.29 crore versus the notified amount of Rs 40,000 crore worth of securities that the Centre had offered to repurchase, latest central bank data showed. Banks offered bids worth Rs 10,989 crore at the auction. The RBI is the government’s debt manager.

Sri Lankan government on Thursday said that four of its nationals arrested in India last week by the authorities in Gujarat for links with the Islamic State terror group have no record of being "religious extremists" but drug addicts. Speaking to reporters in the Eastern town of Ampara, Secretary of Defence Kamal Ginaratne said that the Sri Lankan authorities were also asked to check on the background of those arrested in India and accordingly after a probe it has been found that they are into drugs. «We are currently investigating them. We have found them to be severely addicted to drugs. They are not religious extremists,» Gunaratne said responding to a question. He said that the Sri Lankan authorities have arrested more of their associates but it won't be right to reveal any more details on them as the investigation is going on.

BJP state party president BY Vijayendra on Thursday demanded that Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B Nagendra be sacked and that the state hand over the case of an alleged illegal fund transfer by the department’s corporation to various bank accounts to the CBI for a probe. The BJP, he warned, would launch a statewide agitation over the issue, if its demands were not met within a week. “It is not enough to suspend two or three officials in connection with the Valmiki Development Corporation scam,” he said. He was referring to the government suspending officials after a Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation (KMVSTDC) officer’s alleged suicide over his seniors’ corruption. The officer, Chandrashekhar, 52, had alleged in his “death note” on Sunday that the funds up to Rs 187.33 crore had been allegedly transferred to various accounts following pressure by the managing director of the corporation. He had named Corporation's managing director J G Padmanabh, accounts officer Parashuram G Durugannavar and Union Bank of India chief manager Suchismita Rawal in the note. He had also said that the orders were originally given by the department’s minister orally.
