NRIs getting income tax notices for claiming lower tax rate benefit under DTAA; Know how to resolve this situation
non-resident Indians (NRIs) those who claimed benefit of lower or nil rate of taxation under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) are receiving income tax notice(s) for failing to file Form 10F. The Income Tax Act, 1961, allows NRI taxpayers to declare their income and file ITR by applying for lower or nil rate of income tax (in some cases) under DTAA. For availing the benefit of lower or nil taxes under DTAA, NRIs must submit a Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) and Form 10F. This form could be filled any time before filing Income Tax Return (ITR). As per the existing Indian tax law, there is no deadline to file Form 10F and it can be filed electronically by all NRIs who may or may not have a PAN card. The mentioned income tax notice given to NRIs read as follows: “Incorrect claim u/s 143(1)(a)(ii): Adjustment to total income has been done as per Schedule Capital gains & Special Income, and for this DTAA benefit is to be claimed then relevant statutory form shall be filed. This required adjustment to the income within the meaning of Section 143(1)(a) and accordingly this is an opportunity provided to respond within the time allowed.”

Stealth jets, submarines & missiles: Is China giving Pakistan the edge over India in the growing arms race?
Hangor-class submarine to Pakistan, strengthening their long-standing military alliance. The submarine, launched in Wuhan, China, is part of a $5 billion deal for eight such vessels, aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s naval prowess in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. Armed with cutting-edge weaponry and sensor technology, the Hangor-class submarines signify a shift in regional maritime security dynamics. This naval cooperation aligns with China’s expanding strategic influence, particularly around Pakistan’s Gwadar port in Balochistan, a linchpin of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Beijing’s support to Islamabad extends beyond submarines—Pakistan has also received advanced naval frigates, reconnaissance drones, and fighter jets from its closest ally.

Goodbye US, Hello India. Tired of high costs in America, his family now enjoys Goa’s luxury for just Rs 1 lakh a month
Taking to LinkedIn, Elliot Rosenberg shared how a daring move he made 12 years ago changed his life for the better. He explained that while most personal finance experts emphasize strategies such as budgeting expenses, making long-term investments, and establishing multiple income streams to achieve financial independence and early retirement, he recognized a significant challenge: the high cost of living in America. Although inflation played a role in rising expenses, he believed that the real issue lay in “lifestyle creep.” In many social circles, there seemed to be an unspoken expectation to maintain a costly social life—frequenting upscale restaurants, purchasing event tickets, indulging in shopping sprees, or joining expensive recreational clubs. The pressure to sustain these expenditures often dictated friendships and social acceptance.
