Modi govt's ' calibrated erosion' of EC's integrity: Kharge on election rule
Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday hit out at the government for tweaking an election rule to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents, alleging it is part of the Modi government's «systematic conspiracy» to destroy the institutional integrity of the Election Commission. Kharge also said the Modi government's «calibrated erosion» of the ECI's integrity is a frontal attack on the Constitution and democracy. The government has tweaked an election rule to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents such as CCTV camera and webcasting footage as well as video recordings of candidates to prevent their misuse. Based on the recommendation of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Union law ministry on Friday amended Rule 93(2)(a) of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, to restrict the type of «papers» or documents open to public inspection.

UK 2024: Rishi Sunak exits Downing Street, successor Keir Starmer revives hope for free trade agreement with India
Rishi Sunak surprised many within his own Conservative Party by calling an earlier-than-expected election on July 4 — exactly a month on from a third term win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Democratic Alliance. This meant the FTA talks, having entered their 14th round of intense negotiations, slipped into a more uncertain phase until the new Labour Party-led government committed itself to «deepening our bilateral ties». «We agreed to raise the ambition of our UK-India comprehensive strategic partnership… Crucially, this work will start with trade and investment, and I am pleased to say that we agreed to relaunch Free Trade Agreement negotiations early in the new year,» said newly-elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer after his first meeting with Modi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil last month.

Cricket lovers will miss the sense of expectation they felt when you took to the crease to bowl — there was always a feeling that you were weaving a web around the opponents which would trap a victim any moment. You possessed an uncanny ability to outwit batsmen with good old off-spin as well as innovative variations, as the situation demanded,» the PM wrote. Referencing one of the iconic weapons from the off-spin great's legendary bag of tricks, PM Modi said the shock announcement by Ashwin felt like a «carrom ball that bowled everyone».

"I wonder why it took so many days for LG to give permission": Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit after Delhi LG allows ED to prosecute Kejriwal
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday slammed the Aam Admi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena granted permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute him in the excise policy case. Expressing his surprise over what he felt was a delayed action, Sandeep Dikshit told ANI, «I wonder why it took so many days for the LG to give permission. They (Delhi ministers) should have been in jail by now....» «The liquor scam has nothing to do with the elections. The probe has been going on for 2-3 years.
