BoI's CEO Rajneesh Karnatak on penal interest impact and NIM outlook for FY25
«NIM has come down to 2.80%. However, I clarify again, our domestic NIM is at a healthy number of 3.14%. So, definitely there has been some impact with the rising cost of deposit. The NIM has been impacted and also yield on advances are flat, that is one of the basic reasons. And as regards the RBI circular on penal interest, so now we have to book under the penal charges,» says Rajneesh Karnatak, MD & CEO, Bank of India. Let us start off with your net interest margins here. Now, we saw 25 basis points fall when it comes to the NIMs in this quarter, but going forward your cost of deposits has been rising while the yield on advances has been declining. So, what is your outlook when it comes to the net interest margin considering these factors? Rajneesh Karnatak: As regards the NIM is concerned, our NIM we have shown at around 2.80%. However, this is the global NIM. The domestic NIM is at 3.14%. And the reason for this coming down of the NIM is one of the factors is that 15% of our global book is the international book, where the NIMs are on the lower side.

Miller is one of Trump's longest-serving aides, dating back to his first campaign for the White House. Khalistani terrorist Pannun says, 'We will shake the foundations of Ayodhya'
Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has issued a threat targeting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and other Hindu temples on November 16 and 17. His warning, made on Monday, also took aim at Indian diplomats. In a statement, Pannun claimed, “We will shake the foundations of Ayodhya, birthplace of the violent Hindutva ideology.” SFJ announced its intention to disrupt activities by Indian diplomats holding life certificate camps for the diaspora in Canada. Planned actions include targeting the Kalibari Mandir in Mississauga on November 16 and the Triveni Mandir in Brampton on November 17. This development follows the recent arrest of Inderjeet Gosal, a key SFJ figure, by Canadian authorities. Gosal was detained over his alleged role in last week’s Khalistani attack on Hindu devotees at a Brampton temple.

Why Mayuresh Joshi prefers Syngene to Biocon, Paradeep Phosphates to UPL
Mayuresh Joshi, Head Equity, Marketsmith India, says the ratings for UPL probably look a little bit weak whereas their peers – Paradeep Phosphates and Sumitomo Chemical can do well. For Biocon to a certain extent, numbers are very patchy. One good quarter has been followed by two bad quarters and therefore the consistency in numbers delivery is still not coming through. At this juncture, Syngene remains as a better player on Marketsmith watch list compared to Biocon. Any first thoughts on UPL or any other specialty chemical name that you like? Mayuresh Joshi: No, I think numbers are a tad below par for UPL. The Advanta or the seeds business, has done relatively better, but they are seeing pricing headwinds specifically in the crop protection business. Now within the geographies that they probably operate out of, we are seeing some scenarios where there have been instances of floods in a few European countries as well and therefore how does this revenue build up specifically in the second half that they are maintaining their guidance and specifically on the EBITDA front is something to be watched out for.

More earnings cut could be in the offing, warns Sunil Tirumalai of UBS
With Q2 earnings season already turning out to be the worst since March 2020, Sunil Tirumalai, Chief GEM Equity Strategist at UBS, says chances of further earnings cuts are higher than earnings increases. «In the context of slowing signs in the economy (with nominal GDP growth currently in the bottom quartile of 15 year history), renewed fears of slowdown in global trade after changes in US political landscape, and a gradual slowdown in bank credit growth – it is hard to envisage a situation of sharp earnings increase for the stocks,» he says.
