Actor Mithun Chakraborty claims Bengal's throne will be BJP's after 2026 assembly polls
Mithun Chakraborty on Sunday asserted that the «masnad» (throne) of West Bengal will be of BJP after the 2026 assembly elections in the state, promising to do whatever it takes to achieve the goal. Chakraborty, who has received India's highest film honour Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year, was felicitated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the inauguration of a membership drive of the BJP in West Bengal. Speaking at the programme at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) here, Chakraborty said, «In 2026, the masnad will be ours and we will do everything to achieve the goal.» Stating that he had campaigned for the party for 37 days in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the former Rajya Sabha member said that he was pained at the results in which BJP had come down from 18 seats in 2019 to 12 out of 42 constituencies in West Bengal.

PM Modi lauds Arjun Erigaisi's historic achievement as Indian Grandmaster breaks 2800 rating mark
Narendra Modi has congratulated Arjun Erigaisi, the Indian chess prodigy who recently achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the 2800 Elo rating mark in live chess ratings. This accomplishment makes Erigaisi the youngest Indian and only the second player from the country, after the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to cross this coveted threshold. The 21-year-old grandmaster reached this milestone on October 24, during the 2024 European Chess Club Cup. Representing Team Alkaloid, Erigaisi secured victory in a critical fifth-round match against Russian player Dmitry Andreikin, playing with the White pieces.

FSSAI is now more pro-active, industry-centred with fast responses: Nestle
FSSAI, and the Indian food regulator has now become more pro-active and industry-centred with fast responses in the last decade, said Nestle India Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan. Moreover, with the setting of more NABL-accredited laboratories by different leaders of FSSAI, the credibility of the testing process has also increased, said Narayanan, who led Nestle India after the Maggi crisis, which unfolded almost a decade back. In June 2015, FSSAI banned Maggi noodles for allegedly containing lead beyond permissible limits, forcing the company to withdraw the product from the market. Industry observers opine that only after the Maggi crisis did the FSSAI come into the limelight across the country though it was established almost seven years ago, in September 2008, to lay down science-based standards for food articles and rules and regulations.

Amit Shah promises change in Bengal, says will end infiltration and corruption by 2026
Amit Shah said on Sunday that infiltration at Indo-Bangladesh border will stop completely if BJP comes to power in the state in 2026. Lashing out at the Trinamool Congress-led government over corruption, Shah said the funds sent by the Modi government are routed to corrupt Trinamool leaders. “Mamata Didi talks about injustice in MGNREGA. You (Mamata) were part of UPA. But now in the NDA regime, Modi, in the last ten years, has sent Rs 56,000crore for NREGA. When Modi sends money, it goes to corrupt TMC leaders. Where does this money go? Did the money go to people or Trinamool Congress.” Shah hit out at INDIA Alliance as well during his speech. He also assured that “Achhe Din” will come to Bengal after counting of 2026 assembly polls is completed and BJP comes to power. “Peace will come once infiltration stops. Partnership with neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar in terms of business and cultural aspects will be enhanced. In terms of progress, several initiatives can be possible,” Shah said as he inaugurated the Passenger Terminal Building and Maitri Dwar at Land Port in Bengal's Petrapole today.
