World stocks gain, dollar slips, oil jumps
World shares gained on Friday, just shy of all-time highs, while the dollar languished around one-year lows after the Powell speech. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Avg rose 0.73%, to 41,011, S&P 500 gained 0.65%, to 5,606 and Nasdaq Composite gained 0.9%, to 17,778. Europe's broad Stoxx 600 index rose 0.5% after Asian shares outside Japan had nudged down 0.1%, but Japan's Nikkei gained 0.4%. US Treasury yields fell across the board with benchmark US 10-year notes dipping 5.4 bps to 3.808%, from 3.862% late on Thursday. The dollar turned lower and sterling rose to its highest in more than two years. The euro gained to $1.1179, up 0.6% on the day, hitting a one-year high.

TOKYO : Japan’s balance of trade fell back into the red in July, with the yen’s recent appreciation dimming the outlook for the nation’s exports. Japan posted a trade deficit of 621.8 billion yen for July, equivalent to $4.28 billion. That followed a 224 billion yen surplus in June, Ministry of Finance data showed Wednesday, and compared with the 359.1 billion yen deficit expected by economists polled by data provider Quick.

Thirteen years after the breakup, Honda overtakes former partner to become the new Hero
Hero MotoCorp has fallen to the second position behind Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) based on wholesale dispatch data. According to figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), Honda has surpassed Hero MotoCorp in the April-July period, with 18.53 lakh units compared to Hero's 18.31 lakh units. This represents a difference of approximately 21,653 units, which grows to over 1.3 lakh units when including exports. Both companies declined to comment when approached, a TOI report stated. In January 2011, Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motors (Japan) decided to split after 26 year of partnership.
