Babar Azam advised to claim 'conspiracy letter theory' by Pakistani politician after World Cup exit
T20 World Cup 2024, Abdul Qadir Patel, a lawmaker from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has proposed a suggestion for the national team captain, Babar Azam. The team was knocked out in the group stage for the first time in its history after a crucial match between co-hosts USA and Ireland was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This early exit has ignited intense scrutiny and debate about Babar Azam's future as captain. Pakistan's T20 World Cup campaign began disastrously with a shocking Super Over loss to the USA. This was followed by a six-wicket defeat to arch-rivals India at a packed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 9. These consecutive losses left Pakistan on the brink of elimination. Despite a seven-wicket victory over Canada and a win against Ireland, Pakistan finished third in Group A with four points from four matches, thus failing to advance to the Super Eight stage.

Chinese telecom equipment meant for Pak army ends up in hands of terrorists in J-K
Encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have led to the seizure of highly encrypted Chinese telecom gear "Ultra Set", an equipment used by the Pakistani army that has ended up in the hands of terror groups, officials said. This has also raised concerns over undetected infiltrations from across the Line of Control and terrorists potentially residing in the outskirts of cities and villages, they said. The seizure of the mobile handsets used by foreign terrorists, primarily from Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir, indicate that terror groups are receiving training, weapons and ammunition from state actors in Pakistan, said the officials aware of the matter.

Ex-Pakistan captain defends 'selfish' label for Virat Kohli. Fans ask what about Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan?
Mohammad Hafeez has defended his criticism of Virat Kohli for labeling him «selfish» during a ICC ODI World Cup last year. In a recent episode of the Club Prairie Fire podcast with Australian legend Adam Gilchrist and former England captain Michael Vaughan, Hafeez stood by his controversial remarks about Kohli. In the World Cup match against South Africa, Kohli scored 101 runs off 121 balls, leading India to a formidable total of 326 for 5. Despite India thrashing South Africa by 243 runs, Hafeez criticized Kohli's performance, arguing that his cautious approach, particularly as he neared his century, was detrimental to the team. The Proteas were bowled out for a mere 83 in just 27.1 overs. After that match, Kohli defended his approach, stating that the team management had instructed him to bat deep on a tricky wicket. Hafeez contended, «I think I was correct at that time. No matter who is batting, your intention should always be to win for the team. If someone is stopping himself from playing big shots especially in the nineties, I don't find it right. If you are on 95 and you take more than five deliveries to get to the century and not going for the big shot, it's really sad.»

Sania Mirza and cricketer Mohammed Shami getting married. Both Sania and Shami are prominent figures in their respective sports. Sania, who has recently retired from professional tennis, is India's most successful women's tennis player. Shami, on the other hand, is a key pace bowler who played a crucial role in India's journey to the ODI World Cup 2023 final. These rumors emerged in the wake of Sania’s separation from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik earlier this year and Shami’s ongoing separation from his wife Hasin Jahan. Despite the buzz, Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, has firmly dismissed these wedding rumors. «This is all rubbish. She has not even met him,» Imran told NDTV.

US says it supports direct discussions between India, Pakistan
United States has said it supports direct discussions between India and Pakistan but the pace, scope and character of talks should be determined by the two neighbouring countries. Responding to a question at his daily news conference on Thursday, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said the US values its important relationships with both India and Pakistan. «As we have said, we support direct discussions between India and Pakistan, but the pace, scope and character should be determined by those two countries, not by us,» he said. Responding to another question, Miller said the US and Pakistan have a shared interest in combating threats to regional security.

Cold War 2: Do not let it spark off a nuclear arms race
The deadly stockpiles of nuclear weapons built by Cold War adversaries Russia and the US gave the ‘MAD’ doctrine of ‘Mutually Assured Destruction’ a literal ring. With thousands of nukes each, both had enough to destroy the planet many times over. Could today’s geopolitical divide between a China-led bloc and the US-led West imperil the world with another arms race being pushed beyond the limits of reason by its force of rivalry? According to the latest report by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a think-tank, all nine nuclear-armed countries—the US, Russia, UK, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel—modernized their arsenals in 2023, while some deployed new weapon systems.

Pakistan's ISI honey traps get hyperactive on Indian social media
Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) is running a brisk business of trapping Indian defence officials through spies who pose as beautiful girls to lure Indian defence officials. A large number of such cases have come to light in the past few years. Former BrahMos scientist Nishant Agrawal, who was sentenced to life by a sessions court in Nagpur on June 3 for leaking military secrets to Pakistan, is another prominent case of ISI honeytrap. Pankaj Awasthi, Uttar Pradesh ATS investigation officer, said in his deposition during Agrawal's trial that one 'Sejal' had set up a Facebook account from Pakistan. Using this, she chatted with Pakistani operatives and her Indian targets, including Agrawal, TOI has reported.
