Inside the head of Bruno Schulz
Fear in his heart. Fear and he had breakfast together in Lisowski's tea-room. Fear accompanied him to the High School and looked over his shoulder as the boys put their unsuccessful sketches of animals down in front of him, as well as plaster models, covered with black fingerprints, of their sweet little heads. Fear was there when he talked to other teachers during the break periods… and Fear did not leave him even when Helena Jakubowicz, the young sports and philosophy teacher, asked him how his new novel was getting on. Everyone in Poland who understood the first thing about literature, she said, was waiting for it with increasing impatience and interest. Only when Helena Jakubowicz — small, athletic and with a hairy face like a clever female bonobo chimpanzee — put her hand on his arm and pressed it did Fear go away. But as soon as Helena let go, Fear was back....

Dangerous social media trend among youth - chroming; what it is and what you need to know
chroming. Specialists elucidate this pattern. The new huffing for the younger generation is called chroming. Per Dr. Anthony Pizon, an emergency medicine professor and chief of the medical toxicology division at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the dangerous practice is a means of getting high via inhaling hydrocarbons through the misuse of a variety of legal products, including permanent markers, aerosol deodorant, nail polish, metallic paint, computer duster, carburetor cleaner, paint thinners, gasoline, and hair spray. According to Pizon, the name originates from the remnant of chrome or metallic paint that is left on one's face after breathing in metallic paints applied to a cloth. According to Dr. Betty Choi, a pediatrician and author of ‘Human Body Learning Lab: Take An Inside Tour of How Your Anatomy Works,’ common types of chroming entail breathing via the nose or mouth straight from the container or from a cloth or plastic bag soaked with the desired substance.

Indian men crush Azerbaijan, women smell victory against Kazakhstan
D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaise, the Indian men scored the necessary 2.5 points out of possible three against Azerbaijan in the fifth round of the 45th Chess Olympiad here on Sunday. It seems like Gukesh and Arjun can do nothing wrong in this Olympiad as they overpowered Aydin Sulemanli and Rauf Mamedov respectively with their white pieces in quick time. Praggnanandhaa played another draw on board two but that only ensured an Indian victory irrespective of the result of Vidit Gujrathi who was playing against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. After scoring the fifth victory on the trot, the Indian men maintained a clean slate on ten points and they were joined by Vietnam who continued with their impressive show and downed Poland 2.5-1.5.

Floods claim more lives as torrential rain pounds central Europe
Poland, a rescue worker was killed in Austria and thousands were evacuated in the Czech Republic after heavy rain continued to batter central Europe on Sunday, causing flooding in several parts of the region. A low-pressure system named Boris has triggered days of downpours and rivers have burst their banks from Poland to Romania, where the death toll rose to five on Sunday. More rain and strong winds are forecast until at least Monday. Some parts of the Czech Republic and Poland faced the worst flooding in almost three decades, as towns evacuated thousands of residents. A quarter of a million Czech homes were without power.

Mondo caps ‘beautiful season’ with meet record
Brussels: Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis capped a «beautiful season» with a meet record in the Diamond League Final that was far from his world record. Duplantis has broken the world record three times this year; the second time was when he won his second Olympic gold medal in Paris, and the most recent in a league meet in Poland on Aug. 25, clearing 6.26 meters. But after he made 5.92 that nobody else could match in Brussels, he nailed 6.11 at his first attempt and stopped. That was one centimeter more than his own Memorial Van Damme record set last year, and he said he was too tired to continue. Afterwards, he said his 100-meter victory over 400 hurdles world record-holder Karsten Warholm in Zurich last week took more out of him than expected.

Ukraine destroys scores of Russian drones as it continues to face new wave of long-range attacks
Ukraine Saturday as the country continues to face increased long-range bombardment from invading Russian forces. The Ukrainian Air Force said that 67 drones were launched over the country overnight, with air defences active in 11 regions across the country, including in the capital, Kyiv. Fifty-eight drones were shot down, with three more destroyed by electronic weapons systems, it said. Debris from one drone was photographed on the street outside Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. Ukraine's parliamentary press service confirmed that drone fragments had been found but said there were no casualties and no damage to the parliament building. The bombardment follows a week of increased long-range attacks across Ukraine, including a missile strike on a Ukrainian military academy and hospital Tuesday in the city of Poltava that killed 55 people and wounded 328 more.
