Ukraine secures more military aid from EU members
Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a second $1-billion promise of military aid in as many days on Tuesday during a whirlwind tour of three European Union countries, even as President Vladimir Putin warned that hitting Russian soil with Western-supplied weapons could set the war on a dangerous new path. The aid pledge for 2024 came from Belgium, which topped up the money with a commitment to give Ukraine 30 F-16 fighter jets in the next four years. «Our task is to use the first F-16 on the battlefield this year and in such way that it will fortify our positions,» Zelenskyy said.

Home-grown feasts: How Goans once raised pigs & prepared them for festivals
Goa and pigs have long been closely linked. The Portuguese probably didn’t introduce them, given pork eating traditions in western India, in places like Mangalore and Coorg. But they would have encouraged their rearing, from familiarity with salt pork which fuelled their long sea voyages. There was also, perhaps, the use that the Inquisition made of pork, to identify Iberian Jews who claimed to have become Christians, but secretly maintained Judaic habits, particularly a revulsion from pork. 'Dominic’s Goa', an entertaining memoir by Domnic Fernandes, has a chapter on women who would raise a few pigs at home, feeding them on kitchen wastes and going to the houses that didn’t keep pigs to collect their waste as well. This was mixed with easily available paddy husk, coconut cake (left after oil pressing) and the water from cooking rice. “Pigs were sort of wet garbage-cleaners,” he writes.

Swiftly Soaring: Taylor Swift's Eras tour sparks surge in European air travel for upcoming summer season
tour by global pop sensation Taylor Swift has sparked a rise in European air travel for the upcoming summer season. United Airlines, one of the major carriers, has reported a significant increase in travel demand to popular European destinations such as Lisbon, Portugal, and Madrid, Spain, over the Memorial Day weekend, SchengenNews reports. This increase, estimated to be about 25 per cent higher than last year, is directly attributed to Taylor Swift's Eras tour, which has sparked a travel frenzy among her fans. Similar price hikes are anticipated in other cities hosting the tour in the coming weeks, such as Madrid, Edinburgh, and Dublin, says SchengenNews report.

Transforming Finance: The Evolution and Power of Social Stock Exchanges
In the landscape of finance, a radical shift is ongoing, it challenges the traditional investment landscape for financial gains. This transformation is vainly guarded by Social Stock Exchanges (SSEs); it prioritizes investing in social and environmental causes along with monetary returns. As the world is facing numerous challenges, climate change, poverty, social injustice, and inequality, SSEs provide an opportunity for investors to align financial objectives with societal development.

Firing outside Salman Khan's home: MCOCA slapped against all 6 accused
lookout circular (LOC) has been issued against Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the firing outside actor Salman Khan's house in Mumbai's Bandra earlier this month, a police official has said. The police are also likely to take custody of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in a jail in Gujarat's Sabarmati, and was also contemplating invoking the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case, he said. Anmol Bishnoi had claimed responsibility for the firing and a probe too showed his involvement, following which the LOC was issued on Friday by the Mumbai police, the official added. «Anmol and Lawrence Bishnoi have been named as wanted accused in the case. Anmol Bishnoi stays in Canada and travels to the USA. However, the IP address of the Facebook post, through which he claimed responsibility of the firing, was traced to Portugal,» the official said.

Global worker migration patterns will inevitably shift
The global labour market is in the midst of a gradual but significant transformation. Driven by a dramatic collapse in birth rates, impeded globalization, changes in the capital intensity of growth, a preference shift towards fewer work hours, initial use cases of artificial intelligence (AI) and societal angst over immigration, labour market dislocations have already begun and are only about to go further out-of-whack with time. The manifestations and initial responses are different, country by country, but the meta phenomenon is a major upheaval in labour markets that will necessitate responses.
