Israel bombards Rafah ahead of talks aimed at sealing truce
Israel carried out strikes on the Gazan city of Rafah overnight as it sought to put «pressure» on Hamas ahead of talks in Egypt on Tuesday aimed at sealing a truce proposal endorsed by the militants. After having vowed for weeks to push into the southern border town, Israel called on Monday for Palestinians in eastern Rafah to leave for an «expanded humanitarian area» ahead of a ground incursion. An AFP correspondent in the city reported heavy bombardment throughout the night, while the Kuwaiti hospital there said Tuesday in an updated toll that 11 people had been killed and dozens of others injured in Israeli strikes.

Conflicts vs elections: Navigating the markets in stormy waters
Markets always tend to climb a wall of worry. And in 2024, investors are grappling with abundant worries. Alongside the looming elections, they now must contend with a fresh geopolitical outbreak in the Middle East. Despite this, most international markets are trading within 5% of their all-time highs. Recent weeks have been dominated by news of strife and armed conflicts. This has led to jitters in foreign flows into Asian equities, impacting India as well. Approximately Rs 25,000 crore has been pulled out by foreign institutional investors from Indian equity markets in April so far.

Dubai airport says flood recovery ‘will take some time’ after record rain
heaviest rain ever recorded there after a deluge flooded out Dubai International Airport, disrupting flights through the world’s busiest airfield for international travel. The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That’s before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States.Rain also fell in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. However, the rains were acute across the UAE.One reason may have been “cloud seeding,” in which small planes operated by the government fly through clouds burning special salt flares.

Spain says Israel's 'disproportionate response' in Gaza a global threat
Pedro Sanchez warned Wednesday that Israel's «disproportionate response» in the Gaza war with Hamas risks «destabilising the Middle East, and as a consequence, the entire world». Sanchez also insisted that the recognition of a Palestinian state, long resisted by Israel and its key allies, is «in Europe's geopolitical interests». Sanchez had already raised the subject of statehood during a visit last week to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, when he told reporters that Spain could recognise Palestine as a nation by the end of June.

Renaming places will harm India & China relations, says Rajnath Singh
India by China does not hold any significance and such an attempt will only harm the relation between the two countries. Recently, China renamed 30 places in Arunachal Pradesh. Addressing an election rally at Namsai under Arunachal East parliamentary constituency, the defence minister asked if India renamed a place in China, would it mean that the place comes under India? Such attempts will only harm the relation between the two countries."
