New Delhi G20 declaration major step forward in President Biden's efforts for peace in Ukraine conflict: Senior US official
New Delhi G20 declaration is a «major step forward in this effort», a senior US official said on Sunday. Principal Deputy National Security Advisor of the White House Jon Finer told the media on board Air Force One that the joint statement issued yesterday builds on the Bali G20 declaration and UN resolutions to send «an unprecedented unified statement on the imperative that Russia refrains from using force for territorial acquisition» and abide by UN charter. «The G20 Countries have signed up to the Bali language (declaration) last year and the vast majority of G20 countries have supported multiple UN resolutions that call out Russia's illegal aggression.

US, Russia praise G20 summit declaration as meeting heads to close
Russia and the U.S. both praised a G20 summit declaration that stopped short of directly criticising Moscow for the war in Ukraine as the bloc's leaders headed into the final day of deliberations on Sunday. The world's biggest economies adopted a consensus declaration in New Delhi on Saturday that avoided condemning Russia for the war but highlighted the human suffering the conflict had caused and called on all states not to use force to grab territory. «Everything was reflected in a balanced form,» Svetlana Lukash, the Russian G20 sherpa, or government negotiator, was quoted as saying by Russian news agency Interfax. «All members of the G20 have agreed to act as one in the interests of peace, security and conflict resolution around the world.» White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters the declaration «does a very good job of standing up for the principle that states cannot use force to seek territorial acquisition or to violate the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of other states». Germany and Britain have also praised the resolution but Ukraine has said «it was nothing to be proud of».CATCH ALL LIVE UPDATES OF G20 SUMMIT HERE In the weeks leading to the summit, sharply differing views on the war had threatened to derail the meeting, with the West demanding members call out Moscow for the invasion and Russia saying it would block any resolution that did not reflect its position. The summit also admitted the African Union which includes 55 member states, as a permanent member of the G20. On Sunday, the leaders, including U.S.

India's leadership key to agreeing G20 summit message, EU official says
India's strong leadership made it possible for G20 leaders to reach consensus in intense discussions on a summit message urging nations to shun use of force in territorial disputes, a senior European Union official said on Sunday. For weeks before the New Delhi meeting, the bloc struggled to agree on a reference to the Ukraine conflict, with the West pressing for Moscow to be called out for its invasion, while Russia vowed to block any resolution not reflecting its views. "(The) Indian presidency has been very strong and after intense negotiations, the unanimous outcome was quite productive," said the official, who was aware of the G20 talks, but sought anonymity. «Without India's leadership it would not have been possible,» he added, referring to the summit declaration. The declaration adopted by the Group of 20 on Saturday, when it began the two-day summit, avoided condemning Russia for the war in Ukraine but urged all states not to use force to grab territory. The bloc's leaders also called for implementation of the Black Sea initiative for the safe flow of grain, food and fertiliser from Ukraine and Russia. The EU official, however, said there was not a single word on the Black Sea grain deal from Russia, which finds itself more isolated after the summit. «Russia should have participated, with President Putin sitting down at the table and listening to the criticism from European and global leaders,» the official said, adding, «But he has chosen not to come and participate.» The official said, «The European Union leadership made the points very strongly during the session.

Russia is turning to old ally North Korea to resupply its arsenal for the war in Ukraine
Russia needs to replenish its supplies of ammunition for what could be a long war of attrition. Along with ramping up its domestic arms production, Moscow is turning to an old ally with a vast arsenal — North Korea. Estimates say the reclusive and isolated Asian country has tens of millions of artillery shells and rockets that could give a huge boost to the Russian army. United States officials expect North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia in the coming days to seal a possible deal on munitions transfer with President Vladimir Putin.

Crude oil price at 10-month high. Now what’s next?
Crude oil prices clocked at a ten-month high last week, driven by worries about supply shortages after an unexpected extension of voluntary supply cuts by Saudi Arabia and Russia. Hopes of a delay in further rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve and positive fuel demand from China aided the demand outlook. The most active US WTI crude tested $88 a barrel level, while the Asian benchmark Brent crude pushed above $90 a barrel, for the first time since November last year. A similar move was witnessed in the domestic futures market as well. In April, the key oil-producing countries including Russia, commonly known as OPEC Plus, announced a combined production cut, proposed to extend till 2024 aimed at supporting market stability. However, Saudi Arabia and Russia voluntarily introduced additional reductions in production on top of the broader deal by the OPEC plus countries. Saudi announced a reduction of 1 million barrels of oil per day from July while Russia started cutting down daily production by 300,000 barrels per day. There were expectations in the market that both countries would extend the supply cut into October, but they surprised the market by extending the program till the end of December. Both countries also informed that the plan would be reviewed monthly and adjusted according to market conditions. This has raised worries that demand will exceed supply in the coming quarter sending prices to multi-month highs.
