India secured a consensus on the G20 declaration, defying concerns over sharp divisions among member nations regarding the Ukraine conflict. This achievement was the result of a series of rigorous negotiations involving India, China, Russia, and other Western nations, with the backing of Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia, a PTI report stated quoting sources.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the first day of the summit, surprised many by announcing the adoption of the G20 leaders' declaration with unanimous agreement.
This came as a surprise, given that both the Russia-China alliance and Western nations had previously indicated their unwavering stances on the Ukraine crisis.
French diplomatic sources lauded India's ability to bring countries together, describing it as a display of power rarely seen. They emphasised that India's negotiation skills in accommodating comments from all sides and devising a compromise on the Ukraine conflict were commendable.
European sources, while acknowledging the toughness of the negotiations, hailed the consensus on the declaration as a significant achievement for India.
