OPEC Is Losing Its Mojo on Wall Street
Throttling back on oil production hasn’t helped OPEC and its allies to push up crude prices lately. At least four times in the past 15 months, members of the alliance known as OPEC+ have slashed oil output, only for prices to soon retreat anyway. A surge near $100 a barrel petered out earlier this year, and crude futures tumbled 10% in the two weeks after the coalition announced a roughly 5% reduction on Nov.

Singapore's COVID-19 cases peak, no need for additional measures: Health Minister
Singapore has possibly peaked, and there is no need for additional measures, like wearing a face mask mandate, to be implemented, said Minister for Health (MOH) Ong Ye Kung. “We might have a slight surge, but I think more or less, we are seeing the peak of this wave," Channel News Asia quoted Ong as saying on Friday at the soft opening of a health campus at Woodlands in northern Singapore. However, having about 600 to 700 hospital beds taken up by COVID-19 patients is quite a strain on the system, the minister noted.

The great holiday rush: This New Year season, Indians are travelling like never before, and the world opens up to them
Christmas and year-end season? Pretty much everywhere! Going by most accounts, the October to December quarter this year is likely to be a bumper quarter for the travel and hospitality sector with most companies claiming to have an even better momentum than in 2019. «There is a lot of talk about high airfares but the important thing to note is that people are travelling,» said Rajesh Magow, cofounder and group CEO of MakeMyTrip. «Typically, international travel bookings, even for short-haul travel, are made a couple of weeks or more in advance. However, with markets such as Thailand and others making the entry process a lot easier, we are seeing advance purchase windows for these destinations becoming shorter, in many cases, stretching to a couple of days,» he said. As per MakeMyTrip data, the top destinations for the last week of December in the domestic sector include Goa, Rajasthan, Varanasi, Kerala, Rishikesh and Kashmir. In terms of international flight bookings, popular destinations such as the UAE, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia continue to be favourites.

Covid-19 cases rise in India: Existing vaccines protect against JN.1 sub-variant? What expert says
JN.1 is a descendant of the "pirola" variant BA 2.86, which by itself is an Omicron subvariant. JN.1 has an additional mutation receptor binding domain (L455S) compared to BA 2.86. JN.1 has extensive resistance across receptor binding domain classes 1, 2, and 3 and shows higher immune evasion as compared with BA 2.86 and other resistant strains.

SMBC provides $120 million loan to Air India for A350-900 aircraft purchase
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Japan's second largest bank by assets, has closed a $120 million aircraft financing loan to Air India to help it purchase of an A350-900 aircraft delivered by Airbus. SMBC was the sole bank in the transaction and the transaction was orchestrated with the assistance of Air India’s wholly owned subsidiary in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), AI Fleet Services Ltd, the bank said. SMBC Singapore branch was involved in the transaction. The aircraft purchase was part of Air India’s order of 470 aircrafts placed earlier this year. «Through an innovative GIFT City structure, we have successfully completed this aircraft secured debt facility amid a fast-growing Indian market, marking the bank’s first aircraft finance lease transaction of its kind,» said Hiroyuki Mesaki, country head, SMBC India. Nipun Aggarwal, chief commercial officer at Air India said the A350-900 aircraft is among the first deliveries of the Tata Group's large aircraft order.
