Angelo Mathews becomes first 'timed out' dismissal in international cricket
Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews was on Monday controversially given "timed out" in a World Cup clash against Bangladesh, becoming the first man to suffer the dismissal in the 146-year history of international cricket. The former captain took more than two minutes to take strike and opposition skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed, which was upheld by the on-field umpire. Mathews came into bat after the fall of Sadeera Samarawickrama in the 25th over but was unable to secure his helmet strap tightly enough, an action which delayed the resumption of play. Following the Bangladesh appeal, the umpires held a lengthy discussion with the players including Mathews. They ruled Mathews to be out and the 36-year-old veteran reluctantly trudged off with most spectators appearing bemused by the decision. Some Bangladesh fans applauded. Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn writing on X, formerly Twitter, said: «Well, that wasn't cool». Ex-india batsman Gautam Gambhir, on 'X', said: «Absolutely pathetic what happened Delhi today! #AngeloMathews.» Australian Test batsman Usman Khawaja also blasted the decision. «Angelo made his crease then his helmet strap broke.

8TTA Boys! India thrash South Africa by 243 runs for 8th win; Virat hits 49th ODI ton
India’s bowling attack, by far the best on display in the tournament, came so hard and so relentlessly at South Africa after the batsman had done their job that the result was a one-sided thrashing by 243 runs. At the very start of the game, it became clear that this Eden Gardens pitch was on the slow side. It was not as though the ball was stopping and coming, but clearly, this was a surface where you had to allow the ball to come to you before choosing your stroke, rather than going at the ball with hard hands. Rohit Sharma has taken on the responsibility of being the aggressor and putting the pressure on the bowlers early on and he continued in that vein, racing off to 40 off 24 before holing out to mid-off.

India Vs South Africa match sets digital concurrent viewership record
Virat Kohli equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI hundreds on the field, Disney+ Hotstar too broke a record-with a peak concurrent online viewership of 44 million during the India versus South Africa clash on Sunday. The ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has seen new peak concurrency records being created as official streamer Disney+ Hotstar is providing the matches for free to mobile users. The India-New Zealand match on October 22 had 43 million peak concurrent viewers, surpassing the India-Pakistan match's peak concurrency of 35 million on October 14. Disney+ Hotstar announced in June that it would provide mobile users with free access to the 2023 Asia Cup and ICC Men's Cricket World Cup after placing cricket behind a paywall for several years. The move seems to be paying rich dividends for the streaming platform, as it has been breaking its own record. Prior to the Cricket World Cup, JioCinema had set a record for peak concurrency, drawing 32 million people to the Indian Premier League (IPL) final between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Media experts believe that streaming viewership is on the rise since it allows the convenience of watching matches on the go.

Brent crude futures slip amid easing Middle East concerns and U.S. job growth
Oil prices made a downward turn on Friday, spurred by easing Middle East supply concerns amidst the Israel-Hamas war and speculation of the US Federal Reserve halting interest rate hikes. Brent crude futures were recorded at $84.89 a barrel while West Texas Intermediate crude stood at $80.51 a barrel, marking a weekly drop exceeding 6%. Despite warnings of potential wider conflict at Lebanon’s border with Israel by Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, markets remained steady. John Kilduff of Again Capital LLC stated that this conflict seems unlikely to significantly disrupt demand or supply.
