Around 20,000 people were waiting for the show to start. Many of them had come from out of town and had already spent money on travel and hotel expenses. Lionel Richie tweeted about the situation at 8:31 p.m. He said, «Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight.» He also announced that the show would be rescheduled for Monday, August 14. He expressed his disappointment and said he was looking forward to performing for everyone. He also mentioned that tickets for the canceled show would still be valid for the rescheduled show on Monday. Earth Wind and Fire were also part of the show. They are now set to perform at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Monday. It's not clear if they will be able to make it to the rescheduled show in New York.

Tom Jones, who is the writer of the book and lyrics for the musical "The Fantasticks," died on Friday at his residence in Sharon, Connecticut. His age was 95. According to Jones' son Michael, the cause of the death was cancer, as reported by The New York Times.
