Hilary caused intensified precipitation to the region, resulting in considerable rainfall in mountainous and desert locales. Some of these areas received over half of the average annual rainfall in just a single day. Notably, Palm Springs, a desert resort city, received nearly 3 inches of rainfall by Sunday evening. The storm's impact included the uprooting of trees and the triggering of mudslides in the San Diego vicinity. As President Joe Biden prepared to travel to Hawaii on Monday to assess the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Maui, he urged all individuals in the storm's path to exercise caution and adhere to the guidance provided by state and local authorities.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) — Hurricane Hilary hurtled towards Mexico's Baja California peninsula on Sunday, blanketing the region with heavy rain amid warnings of catastrophic and life-threatening flooding on the peninsula and in the U.S. Southwest.

As of Saturday morning, Hurricane Hilary was situated approximately 240 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. The National Hurricane Center has categorized Hilary as a «large and powerful» storm, characterized by maximum sustained winds clocking in at 130 mph, as per a report in USA Today. Early on Saturday, the National Weather Service in San Diego noted that Hilary had accelerated and deviated slightly eastward in its trajectory. Consequently, the period with the most pronounced impacts from the hurricane is projected to span from Sunday morning until evening. In light of these conditions, the National Weather Service is advising residents to take precautions such as securing valuable items in and around their homes and refraining from driving on roads that are submerged due to flooding.
