The infections had killed one person, sickened 49 and hospitalized 10 across the U.S. West and Midwest, the CDC had said on Oct. 22. The FDA said 22 persons out of the 61, on whom information was available, have been hospitalized. Two of them have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can cause kidney failure.

Sunita Williams terms space her "happy place"; NASA astronauts eager to vote from space in US elections
Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore expressed their desire to vote in the upcoming US presidential elections in November, from the International Space Station, as their stay in the space has got extended at least till February 2025. Williams and Wilmore participated in a press conference on Friday above 250 miles above Earth from the International Space Station, where the two astronauts had been since June, reported the New York Post. The press conference came a week after the Starliner returned to earth. The pair had launched aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft on June 5 for its first crewed flight, arriving at the space station on June 6.

Boeing's Starliner lands safely but without Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
Boeing's Starliner spacecraft landed uncrewed in New Mexico late Friday, concluding a three-month test mission marked by technical issues that have delayed the return of NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. The astronauts, who flew to the International Space Station (ISS) in June aboard Starliner, had to remain in space after NASA deemed the spacecraft's maneuvering thrusters too risky for crewed return. Starliner autonomously undocked from the ISS at 6:04 p.m. ET on Friday, starting a six-hour journey back to Earth using maneuvering thrusters. NASA had determined the thrusters were too risky for a crew, prompting the decision to keep Wilmore and Williams on the ISS. Despite these concerns, Starliner returned to Earth smoothly, as shown in a NASA live stream, successfully completing the critical final phase of its mission. The spacecraft reentered Earth's atmosphere at around 11 p.m. ET, traveling at speeds of approximately 17,000 miles (27,400 km) per hour. About 45 minutes later, it deployed a series of parachutes to slow its descent and inflated airbags just before landing at the White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico.

Starliner begins its journey home without crew; Here’s how to watch its landing live
Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft was set to return to Earth, marking the end of a 14-year mission fraught with challenges. The uncrewed spacecraft was due to perform a crucial deorbit burn at 11:17 p.m. EDT, aiming for a landing at the White Sands Space Harbor in New Mexico shortly after midnight. The landing test would evaluate Starliner’s heat shield and a newly redesigned parachute system. Boeing's Starliner mission, a pivotal endeavor that started 14 years ago, is now reaching its critical phases as it makes its return journey to Earth. The spacecraft’s deorbit burn is a key maneuver needed to slow it enough for gravity to pull it back to the planet, targeting a safe landing at the vast, flat expanse of White Sands Space Harbor. The success of the landing will depend heavily on the deployment of its parachutes, followed by airbags to ensure a soft touchdown, expected around 12:03 a.m. EDT on September 7. NASA astronauts currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS) have been vocal in their support for the mission control team. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore offered encouraging words as Starliner prepared to undock and return home.

Snap sued by New Mexico over failure to protect children from sexual exploitation
New Mexico said on Thursday it filed a lawsuit against Snapchat owner Snap Inc alleging that the messaging app's policies and design features facilitate the sharing of child sexual exploitation material. The lawsuit brought by New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez said a months-long investigation found that Snapchat was a primary platform for sextortion, in which a predator coerces a minor into sending explicit photos or videos and threatens to distribute the content unless more sexual content or money is paid. A Snap spokesperson said the company was reviewing the complaint and would respond in court.

Boeing Starliner to return to Earth today: Will astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore come back?
Boeing Starliner spacecraft is set to make its journey back to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) this Friday. The uncrewed capsule will depart from the ISS, leaving behind its crew members, NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who will continue their mission on the orbital outpost. Despite the spacecraft's earlier technical challenges, both NASA and Boeing express confidence in a successful return, although not confident enough to have the astronauts onboard for this particular trip. Steve Stich, NASA's commercial crew program manager, conveyed optimism during a recent briefing, stating, “We have confidence in the vehicle. It’s been a journey to get here, and we’re excited to have Starliner undock and return”, as quoted in a report by USA Today.
