Volvo Veteran Hakan Samuelsson back as CEO for 2-year term
Volvo Car AB said Hakan Samuelsson, who served as its chief executive officer from 2012 to 2022, will retake the helm as the Swedish carmaker tries to navigate its way out of a malaise worsened by looming US tariffs. Samuelsson will replace Jim Rowan on April 1, and serve for a two-year term as the board looks for a long-term successor, the company said in a statement on Sunday. «With fast-moving technological shifts, growing geopolitical complexity, and intensifying competition across regions, the board believes the company is best served by leadership with deep industrial experience, deep knowledge of our group, and a proven ability to execute in challenging environments,» Volvo Car said. Volvo Car is among the European carmakers vulnerable to new 25% tariffs set to be imposed by the US next week on all imported passenger vehicles and light trucks, as well as key auto parts.

The euro, at just below $1.08, was headed for its largest quarterly rise in more than a year, gaining more than 4% since the start of 2025 on a combination of peace prospects in Ukraine, dollar weakness, and a leap in benchmark German yields.

Ikea as it continues to expand its footprint in the country. Despite a global downturn in the home furnishings sector, Ikea saw robust growth in India, with revenues surpassing 45 billion euros in FY24, demonstrating resilience amid subdued consumer demand. «Affordability is a key focus for us. In the last two years, Ikea India has lowered prices up to 16-39% in line with its global commitment and investment to pass on the benefit to the customers. This was a global move by Ikea to stay true to its affordability promise,'' Susanne Pulverer, CEO & chief sustainability officer, Ikea India told TOI in an interview. In FY24, Ikea substantially lowered prices across 63 markets to push sales in a shrinking home furnishing market. (Ikea financial year runs from Sept 1 to Aug 31). Of the 7,000 products sold at Ikea, nearly 1,000 are priced under Rs 200, ensuring that even those with tighter budgets can find something to purchase, she added. „We have nearly 300 million visitations (online and offline). And 30% business comes from online and it is also our fastest growing channel,'' she added
