U.S. scrambles for eggs; Donald Trump asks Lithuania for supply after Finland and Denmark say no, internet roasts the desperation, dubs it ‘Door-to-door begging’
America in Search of Eggs
With egg prices through the roof, making the once-daily breakfast food a luxury, the US has reached out to various European countries but has been met with refusals and ridicule in the process.
The American government has tried negotiating with several European countries in the last two months, such as Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands, to supply them with eggs to alleviate the shortage, according to Danish magazine AgriWatch.
While, Finns have already declined to export eggs to the US, as per the report. The move led to ridicule on social media, with some making fun of US president Donald Trump's diplomatic strategy, as per AgriWatch.
A Hopeful Egg Supplier?
The mockery online rose after a new report claimed that the US has set its sights on Lithuania, a small Baltic country, in an attempt to get itself an egg supply, reported news website Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT). The American embassy in Warsaw has contacted the Lithuanian Poultry Association and held a meeting with the heads of Lithuanian companies to ask about potential egg exports, according to the report.

Europeans Roast the US for Its Egg Hunt Online
As word of this diplomatic egg hunt made the rounds, European social media users were quick to ridicule the US for its seeming desperation.
Several users online saw this as a moment of ironic justice due to the past tensions between the US and Europe, especially after Trump’s tariff threats and his dismissive attitude toward European allies, reported Hindustan Times.
