India’s rice export curbs could prove too myopic for its good
Global food markets have been thrown into some chaos yet again —not only because of Russia’s decision to pull out of the Black Sea grain deal, but also India’s announcement that it would ban the export of many varieties of rice. The partial exit of the rice market’s largest trading nation, with about a 40% share of exports, has led to fears that food inflation will race out of control, particularly in countries of the Global South that are already struggling with very high debt levels and inflated food and fuel bills.

‘Celebrity inflation’ is a social-media phenomenon
A feature of modern popular culture is its ability to elevate certain individuals from their real-life plane of equality with their fellow humans and ascribe to them attributes fit for a superhero rather than a mere mortal. The media created stars and superstars in the 20th century as well, but the era of social media seems to have spawned a colossal celebrity that transcends borders, bringing inflation and much else in its wake.

Flight passenger forces plane to return to airport gate over bag, claim reports
flight allegedly forced the plane to return to the airport gate just moments before takeoff because he had forgotten his bag at the terminal. A video of the chaos has gone viral, according to a report. The video footage shows the passenger engaged in a dispute with a flight attendant of the budget airline in the aisle while the Airbus A320, en route to Bangkok, was in the process of taxiing for departure from Chiang Mai International Airport in Thailand, the USA Today report said. Thai Smile Airways airline is yet to make an official statement in this regard. As reported by New Zealand-based publication Stuff, the flight crew presented the man with two options: either disembark from the plane immediately or wait until they reached Bangkok. In the video, a flight attendant was heard asking, «Do you want to go? Or do you want to wait until Bangkok?» The passenger insisted on leaving the plane immediately and sought approval from the captain, stating, «Yes, yes, I want to go now. Ask the captain.» Airport security personnel were then observed escorting the man and his two companions off the aircraft. It is alleged that the bag left behind by the passenger contained money and other valuable items. Following a brief delay, the flight landed safely at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, as per reports.
