Barbenheimer' craze is taking over India. With 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' hitting the screen nationwide last week on July 21 (Friday), the clash of the titans at the box-office has been an epic one.
Exhibiting sheer cinematic brilliance in both films, fans have been flocking to theatres for the big-screen extravaganza. While 'Oppenheimer' had an epic start to the opening weekend, 'Barbie' wasn't far behind.
According to film trade analysts Sumoit Kadel and Ramesh Bala, the Christopher Nolan-directorial minted Rs 50 crore (nett) at the domestic box-office and 'Barbie' by director Greta Gerwig stood at Rs 18.50 crore (nett) in the opening weekend. As far as the worldwide box-office collection (North America + International) is concerned, the biographical thriller collected $174.2 million ($80.5 million + $93.7 million) and the candy-coated movie made $337 million ($155 million + $182 million).
While the 'Barbie' craze is evident in regions like North America, South America, Europe, Australia, China, Malaysia and the Philippines, 'Oppenheimer' is winning hearts in India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, the UAE, Thailand and Singapore. Meanwhile, entertainment ticketing portal BookMyShow has recorded 14 lakh tickets for 'Oppenheimer' and over 5 lakh tickets for 'Barbie' in booking so far.
