How Elon Musk’s satellites have saved Ukraine and changed warfare
@elonmusk, while you try to colonize Mars —Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space—Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand. Mr Musk replied to him within hours, saying that the Starlink service had been turned on over Ukraine and that the hardware would follow. Within days lorries full of the pizza-sized flat dishes used to access the satellites began to arrive in Ukraine.

Nikkei Targets All-Time Highs After 33 Years Despite Bank of Japan Shock
Last week, the Bank of Japan shocked markets by deciding to raise the yield curve tolerance range of the Japan 10-Year Treasury bond yield to 1%. This marked a significant step towards reversing years of ultra-accommodative monetary policy. However, Bank Governor Ueda emphasized that this move is just a correction, and their main focus remains to achieve sustained inflation.

Success with chips will take much more effort
Data may or may not be ‘the new oil,’ but advanced microchips for digital devices are in geopolitical focus as the Indo-Pacific witnesses a contest of glares between China and the West over Taiwan, whose grip on the manufacture of these prized inputs has pushed both sides into a race for supply security. Globally, cutting-edge semiconductors are seen to underlie the current path of tech evolution. India’s effort to break into this field has faced setbacks like a proposed Foxconn-Vedanta venture coming apart, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signalled the government’s determination.

Russia outnumbers the US 10-to-1 in tactical nukes. Now what?
Oppenheimer, the story of a man, and all humanity, becoming “death, the destroyer of worlds.” Real life seems hell-bent on imitating art these days. The blame for the global spike in nuclear anxiety belongs mainly, but not exclusively, to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Surely the situation brought about by his invasion of Ukraine and his recurring rattles of the atomic saber must also change how the US thinks about its own atomic strategy.

How rare-gas supply adapted to Russia’s war
Read more of our recent coverage of the Ukraine war The war in Ukraine has reconfigured global flows of oil and gas. Less visible has been its impact on another supply chain: that of the so-called rare gases—neon, krypton and xenon—which are used in everything from chipmaking to medicine to space propulsion. Russia and Ukraine have long been big suppliers, accounting for about 40-50% of the global supply of neon before the conflict, and 25-30% of xenon and krypton, according to John Raquet of Spiritus Consulting, an industrial-gas specialist.
