U.S., U.K. strike Houthi targets in Yemen in response to Red Sea attacks
Houthi military positions in Yemen Thursday night in a massive “direct response” to escalating attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed. The move marks a dramatic escalation of a simmering regional conflict in the Middle East sparked by Hamas’ deadly attack on Israel last October and Israel’s responsive offensive on Gaza.Canada joined Australia, Bahrain and the Netherlands in providing support for the strikes, but the extent of that support was not immediately clear.“These targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to imperil freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most critical commercial routes,” Biden said in a statement provided by the White House.“I will not hesitate to direct further measures to protect our people and the free flow of international commerce as necessary.”The strikes targeted Houthi-connected facilities storing the rebel group’s combat drones and ballistic and anti-ship missiles, as well as air defence systems and logistical hubs in Yemen, U.S.

Crypto mania can have Tulip mania-like outcome, warns RBI after SEC approves Bitcoin ETF
SEC) approved US-listed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track Bitcoin, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Thursday warned that crypto mania can have a Tulip mania-like outcome. «We are all familiar with the Dutch term Tulip mania in the Netherlands. I don't think the world, emerging markets in particular, can afford crypto mania which can have a similar outcome,» Das said at Mint BFSI Summit. While making it clear that RBI's position on crypto remains unchanged, irrespective of who does what, Das said, «Just because somebody is doing something, we are not here to emulate them....travelling down that path will create huge risks which, going forward, will be very very difficult to contain.» Paving the way for inflow of billions of dollars in cryptocurrency, the US has approved 11 Bitcoin spot ETFs. For Indian investors, the Bitcoin ETF will provide an opportunity to include crypto in their portfolio via the LRS route.

Bitcoin's price may zoom to $2 lakh mark on SEC's ETF nod, say experts
ETF) to track bitcoin, industry experts predicted that Bitcoin could hit the $200,000-mark. Additionally, inflows of $50-100 billion in Bitcoin ETFs is expected in 2024, they said. Global bank Standard Chartered said in a note, «We expect Bitcoin to enjoy price gains of a similar magnitude as a result of US spot ETF approval, but we see these gains materialising over a shorter (one- to two-year) period, given our view that the BTC ETF market will develop more quickly, This is consistent with our end-2024 view of Bitcoin at the USD 100,000 level.» «If ETF-related inflows materialise as we expect, we think an end-2025 level closer to USD 200,000 is possible. This assumes that between 437,000 and 1.32mn new bitcoins will be held in spot US ETFs by end-2024. In USD terms, this should be roughly USD 50-100bn,» it added. Predicting Bitcoin's price target for 2024, Mudrex CEO Edul Patel said, «It should be a great year for BTC in 2024. The combined effect of ETFs, halving and regulatory clarity drive up demand. It is expected that BTC will cross its previous highs of $69k.»
