Advertisers in a state of doubt over T20 World Cup
Advertisers are grappling with whether to put their money solely on India's matches, particularly the eagerly awaited clash with Pakistan, or buy non-India games as Disney Star strives to sell a bulk of its ICC Men's T20 World Cup TV ad inventory, as per media buying executives. The India matches will air during prime time at 8 pm while most of the matches featuring non-Indian teams involve weaker teams and will broadcast at 6 am. For advertisers wanting to advertise only on Indian games due to guaranteed viewership, the price tag of Rs 27-30 lakh per 10 seconds is proving to be prohibitive, experts said. For all 55 matches, the ad rate is Rs 6.5-7 lakh per 10 spots.

Time up: BHP gives up plan to take over its rival Anglo American
LONDON: Mining group BHP Group on Wednesday walked away from its $49 billion plan to take over rival Anglo American, which rejected a last-ditch request for more time, ending for now its six-week pursuit. BHP's aim was to secure Anglo's prized copper assets in Latin America and increase access to a metal central to the global shift towards clean energy and electric vehicles. But the structure of BHP's deal, which required Anglo to unbundle its South African platinum and iron ore businesses, was a major reason for its collapse.

US explorer ConocoPhillips to buy Marathon Oil in $17 billion deal
ConocoPhillips agreed to acquire Marathon Oil Corp in an all-stock deal valuing the company at about $17 billion, extending a major buying spree among the largest players in the oil and gas industry in the United States. The move expands ConocoPhillips' footprint in domestic shale fields from Texas to North Dakota and hands the company reserves as far afield as Equatorial Guinea. It adds to a wave of recent megadeals as producers seek new drilling sites on a bet that oil and gas demand will remain robust for years to come.

Ajay Gupta's arrest shot in the arm for President Ramaphosa as South Africa votes
Ajay Gupta, one of three infamous Gupta brothers, by Indian authorities is a shot in the arm for South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) and the country's President Cyril Ramaphosa in an election season. ANC is seeking re-election in Wednesday's parliamentary polls and the arrest of Ajay Gupta will enable the current ANC leadership to target former president Jacob Zuma under whose rule the Gupta brothers ran a controversial business empire in South Africa. Zuma is accused of backing the Gupta brothers in lieu of personal favours, including financial emoluments. Zuma has formed a separate entity to fight the elections, eyeing to create a rift within ANC supporters and garner votes. This is a high-stakes election for ANC.

This was recorded by the agency’s Solar Orbiter Aircraft and it occurred right behind the Sun. It was rated as a X12 and it is believed that it hasn’t occurred since 2017. Scientists believe that it will lead to more solar flares in the coming days.

Another US MQ-9 Reaper drone goes down in Yemen, images purportedly show
MQ-9 Reaper drone went down in Yemen, images online purported to show Wednesday, as Yemen's Houthi rebels continued attacks on shipping around the Red Sea over the Israel-Hamas war. It wasn't immediately clear what brought down the drone, but the U.S. military's Central Command acknowledged seeing «reports» of the aircraft being downed in a desert region of Yemen's central Marib province. It marked potentially the third such downing this month alone. Images published online and analyzed by The Associated Press showed the MQ-9 on its belly in the barren desert, its tail assembly disconnected from their rest of its body. At least one hatch on the drone appeared to have been opened after it landed there, though the drone remained broadly intact without any clear blast damage. One image included Wednesday's date. Noticeably, the drone did not appear to carry any markings on it.

Ripple donates $25m to crypto super PAC
The money brings Ripple's total contribution to Fairshake to $50 million, nearly half the super PAC's entire money on hand.Explaining its decision, Ripple says the SEC's approach to regulating crypto has failed and that the 2024 elections will be the "most consequential in crypto's history"."We must elect leaders who understand this potential and support policies that protect consumers and markets in ways that are fair and innovation-forward," says the firm.Fairshake recently spent $10 million helping to kill off a Senate run from Democrat Congresswoman Katie Porter. The industry secured another win last week when the House of Representatives passed the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act despite opposition from the Biden Administration and SEC chair Gary Gensler. The bill establishes a regulatory framework for digital assets, covering areas such as consumer protections, the use of crypto in illicit finance, but still faces an uncertain future in the Senate.
