Regulatory environments around the world, including in India, are "a little frustrating", says Amway Corp's Doug DeVos
Doug DeVos, global co-chairman of the Amway board of directors, and son of the $7.4-billion Amway Corp's co-founder Rich DeVos. The direct selling company, which makes Nutrilite protein powder and Glister toothpaste, sells its products to consumers primarily through its distributors, and not through physical or online stores. «There's a perception that there's something very different about direct selling or it's secret. I would say we've been the most transparent company; there are no secrets on how the business works; we just access the market slightly differently,» said DeVos.

'Musk’s Starlink satellite internet costs 53% more over 30 years, maintenance twice as expensive'
subsidy program that will benefit satellite internet providers like Elon Musk’s Starlink, but some state and federal officials worry the technology isn’t robust enough to connect Americans on a mass scale and at affordable rates. The Biden administration’s vision for the Broadband Equity and Access Deployment Program (BEAD), designed to deliver fast, reliable home internet service to every US household, leaned heavily on fiber-optic lines, a technology that’s expensive to install but can last for decades. The shift toward satellites is a result of extensive lobbying by Musk and has gained Republican support, including from Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz. State and former federal officials, several of whom spoke to Bloomberg on the condition of anonymity, described pitfalls with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s new approach, which gives more opportunities for satellite terminals that are initially inexpensive, but can cost more over time. One state official shared internal data that showed satellite service costs consumers 53% more over the course of 30 years. Satellite service would also cost more than twice as much to maintain over that time frame, according the data.

We spy with our li'l eye DOGE rejects
Elon Musk's undodgeable firing range DOGE may already have witnessed a firing spree, with thousands of government employees out of a job overnight. But with many of them being repositories and carriers of sensitive information and US government system knowledge, headhunters not so much from Borneo but places like China and Russia could do well to go on a hiring spree. Forget those good old days of campus placements. Think of older days when KGB went to Oxbridge — and, indeed, CIA and MI6 went liaising with Soviet embassy staffers in parks — looking for disgruntled bright sparks unhappy with their country's system. Patriotism, after all, is a roti flip away from serving a cause and salary, especially when your old workplace has spat you out. LinkedIn bios should already be switching from 'National Security Strategist' to 'Spy-for-Hire: Will Work for Renminbis'.

US Recession red flags everywhere: How to survive the economic storm before it's too late
Yet, a recession never came. Optimism grew that the US might pull off a “soft landing.” Now, those hopes are fading. Consumer expectations have plummeted to their lowest level since 2013, according to The Conference Board. Its senior economist, Stephanie Guichard, warned: “Consumers’ expectations were especially gloomy, with pessimism about future business conditions deepening.” Meanwhile, a March CNBC Fed Survey puts the probability of a US recession at 36%, up from 23% in January. J.P. Morgan’s chief economist estimates the odds at 40%. Some, like bond expert Jeffrey Gundlach, believe the chances are even higher—50% to 60%.

US Yemen airstrike details exposed: Is this a national security threat, and can allies still trust America after the signal chat breach? Here’s what the UK has to say
US Yemen airstrike details exposed in a shocking security breach that has raised global concerns. On March 15, 2025, senior US officials mistakenly included journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in a classified Signal group chat discussing Yemen airstrikes. This error has put a spotlight on the vulnerabilities within US military communications. While the UK Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard reassures that Britain still has «high confidence» in US security measures, the breach has triggered debates about national security risks and the reliability of American intelligence-sharing with allies.

Can Trump’s $100 billion ‘Golden Dome’ shield the US from nuclear and hypersonic missile threats?
Strategic Defense Initiative, was mocked as «Star Wars» and ultimately shelved. Now, under President Donald Trump’s directive, that idea has been reborn as the «Golden Dome.» Announced in a congressional address, Trump positioned the initiative as a critical step in bolstering national security. “As a first step, I’m asking Congress to fund a state-of-the-art ‘Golden Dome’ missile defence shield to protect our homeland. All made in the USA,” he declared. Unlike Israel’s Iron Dome, which focuses on short-range threats, the Golden Dome is designed to counter a wide range of missile attacks, including intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and hypersonic weapons. The challenge? The sheer size of the US means covering the entire country is a vastly more complex undertaking.

India, US to focus on higher market access, lower import duty and trade barriers: Govt to Parliament
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said that as on date, reciprocal tariffs have not been applied by the US on India. He said that the government continues to engage with the US to achieve enhancement and broadening of bilateral trade ties in a mutually beneficial and fair manner. “Both countries plan to negotiate a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement. Both countries would focus on increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, enhancing supply chain integration and resolving bilateral trade issues,” Prasada said. In a separate reply, he said recently, the government has not taken any such steps to lift ban on import of certain prohibited and restricted products from USA, China and UK.

Stagflation on the radar for the US economy. Fed Chair Jerome Powell's big remark on 1970s nightmare
stagflation," as one economist put it—a concern gaining traction among analysts who question whether the U.S. economy's strong post-pandemic performance is beginning to wane. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve painted a picture of an economy reshaped dramatically by President Donald Trump and his economic policy. It warned that tariffs could significantly dampen the economic outlook, ushering in higher inflation and slower growth. That sparked concerns about the dreaded “stagflation,” an economic curse that is hard to escape.
