Wild life board rescinds order to grant forest land to temple trust
National Board of Wild Life (NBWL) has revoked the permission granted to a temple trust to use 0.35 hectares of land inside a Gujarat wildlife sanctuary. It has also set up a panel to frame protocol for green permissions to religious institutions in forest areas. The move follows concerns raised by a wild life board member over allowing 'religious use' of the sanctuary land. In view of several 'sacred caves and religious places' in forests and wildlife areas and 'mentions in religious texts', a panel has been set up on the issue, as per the minutes of the October 9 meeting of the standing committee chaired by environment minister Bhupender Yadav. The panel will formulate a standard operating procedure for such religious bodies, prescribe applications and documents required to be submitted along with applications seeking recommendations of the standing committee — in accordance with the provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, as per the minutes.

Illegality shouldn't be condoned, but affected people priority: Tharoor on Wayanad landslides
Wayanad disaster, but right now, the affected people battling psychological trauma require attention and sympathy, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Monday. Tharoor was responding to Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav's remarks that the Kerala government allowed «illegal human habitat expansion and mining» in the state's fragile region which resulted in the devastating landslides in Wayanad district. «If there has been any illegality that certainly should not be condoned and action should be taken. On that, I think we are all in (of) the same view that illegality is not something anybody welcomes. We lost seats not people's support, says Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule at party convention
Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Sunday said his party maintained its support among people despite losing seats in the recent Lok Sabha polls. He was addressing the party's state convention in Pune, which is being attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the party's state in charge and Union minister Bhupender Yadav, co-incharge Ashwini Vaishnaw, among others. «The BJP lost some seats in the Lok Sabha elections, but our voter base remains strong. There is no need to worry about it. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP secured 1,33,08,961 votes. The number increased in the subsequent assembly elections, with the BJP receiving 1,47,09,276 votes,» Bawankule pointed out. «In the 2019 general elections, the BJP obtained 1,49,12,139 votes. In the 2024 general elections, we got 1,49,13,914 votes. This clearly indicates the support for the BJP among the people remains unwavering. Nonetheless, we only secured nine seats in this Lok Sabha election,» he added.

Rich nations should provide climate finance to developing countries: Bhupender Yadav
carbon emissions should come forward and own the responsibility of providing finance to developing countries to address the climate crisis, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Friday. Climate finance will be at the centre of the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the world will reach the deadline to agree on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) — the new amount developed nations must mobilise every year starting in 2025 to support climate action in developing countries. «Temperature rise is a global problem. IPCC reports clearly say the increase in carbon emissions is driving average global temperatures up. Countries have prepared their Nationally Determined Contributions. India has achieved its climate targets, be it in the renewable energy sector or reducing carbon emissions,» Yadav said at the India Climate Summit. «Developed countries are required to provide finance and technological support to developing countries if we need equal growth in the world. Unfortunately, this could not happen but the New Collective Quantified Goal will be the central point of the COP29 in Baku. Countries historically responsible for maximum carbon emissions should come forward,» he said.
