Despite the act of vandalism, the officers appeared unresponsive. Pro-Khalistan demonstrators gathered outside the venue, waving flags and protesting against Jaishankar’s presence. Russia accused by Britain and France of delaying ceasefire talks, say Putin 'owes' the US an answer
Vladimir Putin of dragging his feet in ceasefire talks to bring a halt to fighting in Ukraine and ramped up pressure on Moscow by insisting that he owes the United States an immediate answer. Russia has effectively rejected a U.S. proposal for a full and immediate 30-day halt in the fighting after a Kremlin official said on Monday that Moscow views efforts to end its three-year war with Ukraine as «a drawn-out process.» «Our judgment is that Putin continues to obfuscate, continues to drag his feet,» British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told reporters at NATO headquarters, standing alongside his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot in a symbolic show of unity. Britain and France are helping to lead a multinational effort known as the «coalition of the willing» to set up a force to police any future peace in Ukraine. Lammy said that while Putin should be accepting a ceasefire, «he continues to bombard Ukraine. It's civilian population. It's energy supplies. We see you, Vladimir Putin. We know what you are doing.»

Diplomats from three countries said they believed they were 99 per cent of the way toward completing a joint statement that would reflect the group's positions. «There is a great deal of unity within the G7,» Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said Friday. «We talked about many different things.… We support the US proposal for a ceasefire, which is supported by the Ukrainians, and we are waiting for the Russian response.» British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the group arrived at common positions on Ukraine, the Middle East, wars in Africa and Chinese activity in the South China Sea.

British teenager faces two decades in UAE jail for holiday romance with 17-year-old in Dubai
Dubai, founded by Radha Stirling, highlights the case's uniqueness due to the small age difference and the fact that both teenagers are now of legal age. The group stated that the couple began a relationship while on holiday with their families in September. The girl's mother reportedly discovered the relationship after they returned home and contacted Dubai police. The girl’s mother found their chats and pictures back in the UK. Consequently, Fakana was detained by Dubai police. According to reports, the girl was only a few months younger than Marcus, a fact he was unaware of at the time. Since his arrest, the girl has turned 18. Although Fakana is no longer detained in a police cell, he remains unable to leave the UAE. Meanwhile, his family is incurring expenses of £2,000 for Airbnb accommodation while awaiting the resolution of his case.

So much to learn from India, says UK minister
artificial intelligence (AI) and space science, said a Cabinet minister in Prime Minister Keir Starmer-led government. Addressing a Diwali celebration organised by the Labour Indian diaspora group on Monday evening, UK Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Liz Kendall reiterated the party's manifesto for the July general election committed to pursuing closer ties with India and a free trade agreement (FTA). As a member of Parliament from Leicester West, a constituency closely associated with the British-Indian community, the minister said she remains determined to champion the India-UK relationship in the Labour government and her city. «It was a very clear part of our manifesto that we want to build a new strategic relationship with India because we understand the vital relationship between our two great nations,» said Kendall.

UK suspends 30 of its 350 arms export licences to Israel
Israel because there is a risk such equipment might be used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law, foreign minister David Lammy said on Monday. Lammy said the decision to suspend the licences did not amount to a blanket ban or an arms embargo, but only involved those that could be used in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. Soon after the Labour Party won an election in July, Lammy said he would update a review on arms sales to Britain's ally Israel to ensure these complied with international law.

India, UK launch Technology Security Initiative led by NSAs
India and the United Kingdom are launching a new 'Technology Security Initiative' (TSI) to elevate the strategic partnership between the two countries to the next level. This was announced during visit of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The TSI will be coordinated by the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of both countries through existing and new dialogues. The NSAs will set the priority areas and identify interdependencies for cooperation on critical and emerging tech that will, in turn, help build meaningful technology value chain partnerships between two countries, officials said. The progress made on the initiative will be reviewed on a half yearly basis at Deputy NSA level. «We will also set up a bilateral mechanism led by India's Ministry of External Affairs and the UK government for promotion of trade in critical and emerging technologies, including resolution of relevant licensing or regulatory issues,» an official said.

India trade talks set to be revived with first major UK ministerial visit
free trade agreement negotiations are set to be defined this week as UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy is expected in India on Tuesday, the first high-profile visit under the newly elected Labour government in Britain. The free trade agreement (FTA) talks began in January 2022, under the then Conservative government, with a target to significantly boost the GBP 38.1 billion a year bilateral trading partnership but hit a block in the fourteenth round of negotiations to make way for general elections in both countries. A report in 'The Daily Telegraph' on Sunday quotes a New Delhi source to claim the Indian side would seek clarity on whether the Labour government intends to pick things up from where they were left off or start afresh in some way. «India is keen to resume talks on a positive note, but the date needs clarity,» the source told the newspaper.

Prioritising India-UK ties, FTA in focus under new PM Keir Starmer
Keir Starmer on Friday has paved the way for a fresh chapter in the country's relations with India as the Labour Party takes charge of steering the stalled Free Trade Agreement negotiations that got stalled with the outgoing Rishi Sunak-led administration. If recent high-profile visits by the shadow cabinet members, stepping up as Cabinet members, are anything to go by, the choreography around India being a priority country is likely to see at least some degree of continuity. However, despite a manifesto commitment to build a «new strategic partnership» and the then shadow foreign secretary and now the Foreign Secretary in Starmer's government, David Lammy promising to be on a flight to India before the end of July if elected, how much of a priority India will be among the various domestic pressures facing a cost-of-living crisis hit Britain remains an unknown factor. The India-UK FTA talks began in January 2022 but were stalled in the 14th round as both countries stepped into their general election cycles this year. India saw the new government in the first week and on Friday, it was the UK's.
