Rosmerta to set up 10 vehicle scrappage units, invest ₹200 cr
Automobile technology and automation firm Rosmerta Technologies plans to invest Rs 200 crore to set up ten vehicle scrappage units over the next three years, according to a top company executive. The company currently operates a single vehicle scrapping facility in Manesar (Haryana) with a capacity of processing 30,000 vehicles annually. After the capacity addition, the company will be able to process up to 3 lakh vehicles annually. In an interaction with PTI, Rosmerta Technologies President Kartick Nagpal said that with the setting up of the scrappage centres, the company will be able to contribute to the circular economy by helping recycle three lakh vehicles each year. «With this regard, we plan on investing Rs 200 crore across India to leverage this situation and contribute to the circular economy,» he added. The central government believes that the output from scrapped vehicle materials would save about 33 per cent on raw material costs and will bring down reliance on imported metals such as aluminium, copper as well as rubber. India, which is ranked fourth and sixth largest manufacturer of passenger and commercial vehicles respectively, imports metals worth USD 34.7 billion each year. In August 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the national vehicle scrappage policy to help phase out unfit and polluting vehicles and also promote a circular economy. While the government has financially incentivised scrapping old vehicles and replacing them with new ones, over 50 lakh light motor vehicles aged over 50 years (as per industry estimates) continue to ply unchecked. Rosmerta Technologies is the country's leading manufacturer of high-security registration plates (HSRP).

Internal issues should not be discussed by others: Om Birla tells European Parliament VP
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday lodged a strong protest with European Parliament Vice President Nicola Beer over the passage of a proposal linked to India's internal matters. Om Birla insisted that every nation and parliament is sovereign and that their internal issues should not be discussed by others. Neighbours first: India resumes ferry service to Sri Lanka after more than four decades
Sri Lanka restarted a ferry service between Nagappatinam in Tamil Nadu and Kankesanthurai (KKS) near Jaffna on Saturday—nearly four decades after it was suspended--as part of efforts to put in place connectivity initiatives that would push South Asian integration. A vessel named ‘Cheriyapani’ left Nagappatinam for Kankesanthurai with 50 passengers and was scheduled to return by evening with passengers from Sri Lanka. The ferry service initiative was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesignhe during the latter’s visit to India in July. The high-speed ferry, operated by the Shipping Corporation of India, has a capacity of 150 passengers. It can cover the distance of about 60 nm (110 Km) between Nagapattinam and KKS in about three and a half hours under good weather conditions, officials said. Ferry services between India and Sri Lanka were suspended in the 1980s for security reasons.

Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates Nagaland's first medical college
Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday inaugurated Nagaland's first medical college — the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR). Mandaviya unveiled the monolith marking the inauguration, in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM TR Zeliang, state ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats. The college has 100 seats — 85 for students of Nagaland and 15 for other states. Addressing the function, Mandaviya said that the first medical college of the state will not only impart medical education but it will also be a research centre. The central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to set up healthcare facilities in every part of the country, he said. Medical and nursing education needs to be strengthened considering the need of the hour, he added. There were about 64,000 MBBS seats in the country in 2014, and it has increased manifold, Mandaviya said. «Similarly PG seats have also doubled in the last nine years,» he said. He asked the Nagaland government to start Jan Aushadi Kendras in every health facility of the state, and assured full support of the Centre. CM Rio said it was a historic day for the people of Nagaland as their dream of a medical college was fulfilled. The state has a severe shortage of doctors, and there are shortcomings in the delivery of secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare, he said. He said that he hoped the new facility would grow into a centre of excellence. Rio urged the people to ensure special care and love for the students coming from other states to study at NIMSR, so that they become the ambassadors of the state.

‘Focus on tax and spending reforms in FY25 budget’
NEW DELHI : The full-year budget, to be presented in Parliament after the national elections, will likely focus on expenditure reforms and encourage businesses and individuals to shift to the new simplified and exemption-less tax regime, said Bibek Debroy, the chairperson of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM). In an interview, Debroy said by the time the full-year budget is presented, the terms of the Sixteenth Finance Commission to decide on the sharing of the Centre’s divisible pool of taxes with states for the five years from 2026-27 will come out, indicating overall expenditure reforms needed at central and state levels. India’s economy is expected to grow in the range of 6.5-7% in the medium term, Debroy said.
