Mumbai: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the country need not have to wait till September 2025 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not remain at the helm after June 4, when results of Lok Sabha polls will be declared. Tharoor's comments come a day after AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed Modi is asking for votes for Home Minister Amit Shah, who will be his successor after Modi «retires» on turning 75 in September 2025. «A new government will come to power at the Centre in June. There is no need to wait till September 2025,» Tharoor said while responding to a query on Kejriwal's remarks. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, the Thiruvananthapuram MP alleged Modi has lowered the standard of public discourse and the language being used by him is not good for the country.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying while the BJP has been «counting the notes» it got from «tempo wale billionaires», his party will conduct a caste census to ensure equality. The former Congress president was reacting to Modi's remarks on the Congress receiving cash loaded in tempos from Adani and Ambani. In a post on X, Gandhi said, «They have been 'counting notes' they got from 'tempo wale billionaires' for the last 10 years. We will X-ray the country through 'caste census' and ensure equitable share for every section». He also shared a party advertisement which takes on the government over the caste census issue.

Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, TMC's Shatrughan Sinha, Mahua Moitra and Yusuf Pathan, BJP's S S Ahluwalia and Dilip Ghosh will be among the candidates whose fates will be decided in the EVMs as eight Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal will go to the polls in the fourth phase on Monday. New Delhi: In the wake of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's remarks that Pakistan should be treated with caution as it also has the atom bomb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that Congress did not act against the neighbouring country due to the fear of losing its vote bank (read Muslims) in India. «Congress repeatedly tries to scare our country. They say tread cautiously, Pakistan has an atom bomb. These virtually dead people are killing the minds of the people too. Congress has this attitude- they talk about Pakistan's bomb when the situation there is such that it cannot handle the bomb. It is out to sell it and there are no buyers. People know the quality is worthless and doesn't sell. Due to this weak attitude of Congress the people of Kashmir faced terrorism for 60 years, and the country faced many terror attacks,» the prime minister said at a public meeting in Odisha. Campaigning in Odisha, Modi held election rallies in Kandhamal, Bolangir and Bargarh. He also addressed a rally in Chatra, Jharkhand.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come forward to clarify the BJP's '75 years retirement formula' which they have imposed on their senior party leaders. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to lead the nation post the Lok Sabha elections. Singh said that Kejriwal raised the «genuine» issue of '75 years age rule', which was made by Prime Minister Modi. «They (BJP leaders, including Shah) said whatever rule PM Modi has made, it will be implemented on other leaders but not on Modi,» Singh said at the AAP office here.

Kharge, addressing a press conference here, also claimed that it will be «extremely difficult» for Modi to form the next government in the country. «In Nandurbar, Modi said Thackeray and Pawar should cross over and all their wishes will be fulfilled. He said it would be better than dying with the Congress. Does a prime minister speak such language?» Kharge said. The PM had made the remark referring to a statement by Pawar, the founder of the NCP, who had predicted that many smaller parties opposed to the BJP would come close to the Congress, and some may even «merge».
