INDIA bloc held a massive rally here on Sunday against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kickstarted the NDA Lok Sabha campaign from Meerut in west Uttar Pradesh with a public meeting where he alleged that the Opposition has formed a coalition to protect the corrupt while he has ensured that those engaged in huge corruption are put behind bars. “In the last ten years, the country has seen that we have started the fight against corruption, we have ensured that no middleman is able to steal money from the poor… I am fighting against corruption and because of this, some people are facing problems… Modi’s mantra is remove corruption and they say ‘save the corrupt’. This election is between the NDA, which is fighting against corruption and the other group, which is fighting to save the corrupt,” he said at the joint rally of NDA partners. He took digs at the Opposition on corruption and the formation of INDI Alliance to fight him.

Priyanka Gandhi said she thinks that those in power today are besotted with showoff and she wants to remind them of the thousands of years old tale and its message.

BJP on Sunday hit back at Rahul Gandhi over his «match-fixing» accusation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Congress government in the past handed over Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka clinching a «deal» with the neighbouring country to benefit the party's first family. The BJP's reaction came after Gandhi accused Prime Minister Modi of trying to do «match-fixing» in the Lok Sabha polls and asserted that if the BJP succeeds in its endeavours, the country's Constitution will be changed and people's rights taken away. Addressing a press conference here, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also slammed the Congress over Gandhi's claim that the entire country will be on fire if the saffron party returns to power and the Constitution is changed, saying that divisive politics is in the «DNA» of the main opposition. The Congress did not hesitate to even allow the country's partition on the lines of religion in 1947 leaving a portion of Jammu and Kashmir under Pakistan's occupation, he charged.

Amit Shah on Sunday said former deputy prime minister L K Advani remained selflessly dedicated to national welfare and social upliftment throughout his life. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday described the RSS-BJP combine as «poison» that has «destroyed» the country, and called on all opposition parties to unite to defeat the ruling party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This election is to save democracy, the country and the Constitution, he said at 'Loktantra Bachao' rally of the opposition INDIA bloc at the Ramlila Maidan here. The rally seeks to highlight the «threat to democracy» after the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. The wives of both Kejriwal and Soren were also present at the rally and addressed it. «We need to unite and only then will we be able to fight the BJP. We won't succeed if we keep attacking and fighting each other,» Kharge said.

We have Lok Sabha polls before us. Who selected the umpires? Before the match started, two players were arrested… Narendra Modi is trying to do match-fixing in these polls,» Gandhi said. The BJP is raising the slogan of getting 400 seats, but without EVMs, match-fixing, pressure on opposition leaders and buying media, they will not be able to cross even 180 seats, he claimed.

The prime minister will hold a rally in Meerut on Sunday where the BJP has fielded actor Arun Govil of TV serial 'Ramayan' fame as its candidate. According to sources, apart from Govil, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary, who recently joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, will share the dais with the prime minister. Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal on Sunday read out a message sent by the AAP supremo from lock-up at the INDIA bloc's 'maharally' at the Ramlila maidan in Delhi. As part of his message, Kejriwal said that India is in pain and also announced 6 guarantees if INDIA bloc is voted to power, which include 24/7 power supply and high class education. «Your own Kejriwal has sent a message for you from jail. Before reading this message, I would like to ask you something. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi put my husband in jail, did the Prime Minister do the right thing? Do you believe that Kejriwal Ji is a true patriot and honest person? These BJP people are saying that Kejriwal ji is in jail, he should resign. Should he resign? Your Kejriwal is a lion, they will not be able to keep him in jail for long,» she said.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said the BJP is «worried» about losing power as he attacked the ruling party for «misusing» probe agencies to target the opposition. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said that the BJP is being "criticised" across the world for the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Yadav, who arrived in the city for the INDIA Bloc rally at Ramlila ground, told reporters at the airport, the «BJP is worried that it is going (out of power). While we (opposition leaders) are coming to Delhi today, the PM is going out of Delhi. This shows who is going out (of power)». He was referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Meerut later in the day.

The new rule, Section 43B(h) of the Income Tax Act, introduced in the Finance Act 2023, is designed to make sure small businesses get paid on time. It allows companies to get tax breaks if they pay their small business suppliers within the time limits set by the MSMED (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development) Act, 2006. Especially, companies must pay within 45 days if there is an agreement, and within 15 days in the absence of such a pact. If they do not meet these deadlines, they can not deduct these expenses for tax purposes.

BJP on Sunday slammed the opposition INDIA bloc's rally at Ramlila ground here, saying it is not a «save democracy» meeting as projected but a "save family" and "hide corruption" rally. Congress on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining a «studious silence» on key issues affecting the people of Uttar Pradesh, as it alleged that he has «failed» women, farmers and youth. Ahead of the prime minister's rally in Meerut, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posed questions for him on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh. To avoid having to come clean on his real intentions, he has maintained a «studious silence» on these key issues so far, Ramesh said and went on to list the issues which he claimed the people of Uttar Pradesh are hoping to hear from the PM on. «Publicly, PM Modi loves talking about women's empowerment and 'Nari Shakti' but he has repeatedly failed Indian women, even within his own party. CBI filed closure report in Air India scam case, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise to former PM Manmohan Singh and to the country. The Congress leader alleged that the CBI closed the case because Nationalist Congress Party (NCP — Ajit Pawar faction) leader Praful Patel joined hands with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. «In 2014, during the Air India scam, PM Modi was going everywhere with the CAG report. Yesterday, the CBI closed that case because the then minister (Praful Patel) joined the BJP and went into BJP's washing machine. PM Modi should apologise to Manmohan Singh, he should apologise to the country,» Jairam Ramesh said.

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of «strangling» democracy and said it seems the country is being run not by a government but by a «criminal gang». Gandhi's attack on the government came a day before the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance's (INDIA) public meeting at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan which the Congress has termed 'Loktantra Bachao Rally'. In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, «Narendra Modi wants to strangle democracy and take away the option from the people to choose a government of their choice.»

Congress has questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) closing a case against Praful Patel in the BJP-alleged irregularities in leasing aircraft for Air India, alleging that the former civil aviation minister is being let off for joining the ruling alliance after splitting NCP. The main opposition party has recycled BJP's 2014 election material, alleging a «Rs 30,000-crore Air India scam» and blaming Patel for it, and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come clean on his past statements against the UPA regime over the alleged «Air India scam» as well as BJP's allegations against Patel over purchasing a Mumbai property allegedly from terror accused Iqbal Mirchi's family. «Months after Praful Patel joined the BJP alliance in Maharashtra by splitting NCP, the CBI filed a closure report in a 2017 case of corruption, alleged by the BJP in its 2014 'Chargesheet',» Congress leader Pawan Khera said at an official briefing here on Saturday.
