Raghav Chadha on October 10 approached the Supreme Court with a plea that challenges his suspension from the Rajya Sabha. Chadha was suspended from the Parliament's Upper House on August 11 for “gross violation of rule, misconduct, defiant attitude and contemptuous conduct". The action against him came in response to complaints submitted by four MPs – Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M Thambidurai and Narhari Amin – who accused him of including their names in a motion without their consent.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar defended the government's decision to suspend issuance of visas to Canadian citizens, telling members of Parliament from across the political spectrum that the «temporary arrangement» was unavoidable for the safety of Indian diplomats, said people privy to the information.
