Should you consider international and gold mutual funds after Budget 2024?
gold mutual funds, as well as equity Funds of Funds (FoFs). These changes include a reduced holding period and a revised long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax rate, while the short-term capital gains (STCG) tax rate remains unchanged. This shift has made these investment options more attractive for investors seeking diversification and tax efficiency. Key Taxation Reforms Reduced Holding Period: The holding period for equity FoFs, international funds, and gold mutual funds has been shortened from more than 36 months to more than 24 months to qualify for LTCG benefits. Revised LTCG Tax Rate: The LTCG tax rate for these funds has been reduced to 12.5% for investments held for more than 24 months. Previously, investments held for over 36 months were taxed at 20%. The STCG tax rate remains tied to the investor's income tax slab.

However, buying of around $2.2 billion worth of equities by domestic institutional investors last week limited the downside on Dalal Street. Sensex ended 1.6% lower on a weekly basis as global markets recouped losses after ' Black Monday' sell-off.

No natural earthquake recorded in Wayanad, adjoining areas in Kerala: National Seismology Centre
NCS) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) on Saturday confirmed that there has been no natural earthquake recorded in Wayanad and its adjoining areas by any of the Seismographic stations installed in Kerala or its surroundings on August 9, 2024. Ministry of Earth Sciences in a press statement said, the felt tremor reported by media sources with rumbling sound may be due to shifting of unstable rock masses accumulated during landslides from one level to other lower level for better stabilization that have generated sub terranean acoustic vibration due to frictional energy. «This energy has the potential of propagating up to hundreds of kilometres through sub-surface cracks and fractures associated with sub-surface lineaments that may have caused rumbling sounds with ground vibration in the areas as a natural phenomenon in the landslide-Prone zones,» the Ministry said.
