UP man chokes minor sister on busy road in Meerut, locals record videos until she dies
Meerut, a 26-year-old man allegedly strangled his 17-year-old sister to death in full public view, while onlookers stood by recording videos instead of intervening. The horrifying crime took place in Nangla Shekhu village, located in the Incholi area, and has left the community in shock. The police reported that the accused, identified as Mohd Haseen, was reportedly enraged by his sister's persistent desire to marry a man from a different religion. SP (Meerut Rural) Kamlesh Bahadur confirmed the incident, stating, «The crime occurred on Wednesday following a heated argument between the siblings at home. We've arrested the accused, and an FIR has been filed under IPC section 302 (murder) and other relevant sections, based on a complaint from their mother.» SHO (Incholi), Yogendra Singh, provided further details, explaining that the victim had been in a relationship with a man from another community, which had deeply displeased her family. Earlier in March, she had eloped with her boyfriend, leading her family to file a complaint, alleging that she had been kidnapped. The police managed to locate the couple, and the boyfriend was subsequently jailed on charges of abduction, with a charge sheet later submitted to the court.

Rapido goes past $1 billion GMV mark
Rapido, which started as a bike-taxi platform, has crossed gross merchandise value (GMV) of $1 billion, according to people aware of the matter, driven by its expansion into segments such as cabs and auto-rickshaws and an aggressive expansion into more than a 100 cities. This also marks the emergence of a significant third player in the ride-hailing business–after Uber and Ola–which has remained largely stagnant after the pandemic. Rapido has recorded more than three times growth since FY23, when it was clocking a GMV of about $300 million. It is also present in the parcel pick-up-and-drop segment.

Warner Bros Discovery writes down TV assets by $9 billion amid uncertainty over fees, sports rights renewals
Warner Bros Discovery said on Wednesday it wrote down the value of its TV assets due to the uncertainty of fees from cable and satellite distributors and sports rights renewals, sending its shares down nearly 10% in extended trading. The film and entertainment studio, which owns sports network TNT and streaming service Max, recorded a $9.1 billion non-cash goodwill charge in the second quarter. This charge, stemming from a reassessment of the assets' value since the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, contributed to a $10 billion net loss for the quarter. The media landscape has significantly changed in the past two years, impacting valuations and expectations for traditional media companies and this current situation is reflected in the write down, CEO David Zaslav said in a call with analysts.

RBI shortens frequency of credit reporting to 15 days
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday shortened the frequency of reporting credit information of borrowers to credit information companies (CIC) to 15 days. Earlier lenders were required to report this information at monthly intervals. The regulator said this move will provide a more up-to-date picture of a borrower’s indebtedness. The regulator is expected to issue necessary instructions soon. «It has been decided to increase the frequency of reporting of credit information to CICs from monthly intervals to fortnightly basis or at such shorter intervals as mutually agreed between the credit institutions and CIC,» the RBI said in a statement. «The fortnightly reporting frequency would ensure that credit information reports provided by CICs reflect more recent information.» RBI said this move will be beneficial to both borrowers and lenders.
