Investing.com – Gold prices settled at a record high Friday after briefly topping $2,200 for the first ever as growing optimism on major central banks dropping the axe on interest rates in the coming months and ongoing geopolitical tensions in high demand.

Gold prices surged to a fresh record high on Friday as data showing a rise in the U.S. unemployment rate boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve could begin cutting interest rates soon. Spot gold rose 0.7% to $2,173.49 per ounce by 10:42 a.m. ET (1542 GMT), while U.S. gold futures added 0.7% to $2,180.50.

Coal India Ltd hit a record 703.91 million tonnes (MT) in this fiscal until March 7, surpassing the last fiscal's output of 703.20 MT, the Coal Ministry said on Friday. Highlighting that several key measures were implemented to enhance production, the ministry said Coal India maintains an ample stock of 72.70 MT as of 7th March 2024. "Coal India Limited (CIL) has achieved a record production of 703.91 million tonnes of coal up to 7th March 2024 during the current fiscal, surpassing last financial year's production of 703.20 MT by an impressive margin of 26 days," the ministry said in a release. Adoption of the Mine Developer and Operator model, mechanization and modernization of CIL mines, both Underground & Opencast, undertaking new projects, expanding existing projects, have bolstered coal production, it said.

MUMBAI : Mumbai: Net inflows into equity mutual funds jumped to a 23-month high in February, led by a surge of investments in thematic or sectoral funds. Net inflows rose 23% month-on-month to ₹26,865.78 crore, the highest since March 2022, data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) showed on Friday. Thematic or sectoral fund inflows rose a whopping 134.4% month-on-month to ₹11,262.72 crore in February, from ₹4,804.69 crore in January.

₹22,419 crore in Indian debt markets last month, extending the positive momentum picked up in 2023. The benchmark indexes Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex, which were little changed in January amid foreign outflows, gained more than one per cent last month on FPI buying and robust domestic inflows. FPI inflows are likely to increase further due to India's rising share in the MSCI Emerging Markets index, global brokerage firm CLSA said in a note.
