Despite a long record of name-calling, India remains an inspirational and inspiring brand
Brand India enjoys liable to misuse? PM Narendra Modi's well-known flair for wordplay, using alliteration and other rhetorical devices, was given another airing when, during the parliamentary deadlock over the violence in Manipur, he took a dig at the opposition combine, which has adopted the acronym INDIA, and pointed out that the word 'India' has often been used as guise, or camouflage, by all manner of entities engaged in various kinds of nefarious activities. In support of his claim, he cited examples as diverse as the Indian National Congress, set up during the Raj under the auspices of Alan Octavian Hume after the 1857 uprising as a 'safety valve' and a counter-revolutionary sop to further British imperialism, and terrorist organisations such as the Indian Mujahideen and the Popular Front of India.

Gyanvyapi survey: GPR tech can detect if any structure is buried under mosque, says fmr ASI official
GPR) technology being used in the ongoing scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex can detect if any structure is buried beneath the mosque. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Saturday resumed its scientific survey work at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple. Former additional director general of the ASI B R Mani said radar technology or ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology involves certain types of equipment. «These equipment are kept on the ground and electromagnetic waves or pulses are sent on the sub-surface level below the ground. These pulses come in contact with any anomaly like bricks, sand, stone, and metals and it is recorded on a monitor,» said Mani, who is the Director General of the National Museum here. «Experts study it and make the alignment after which they get to know if there is anything solid present beneath the ground,» he said.

Buffett's Berkshire posts record operating profit, $35.9 billion of net income
Berkshire Hathaway on Saturday posted its highest ever quarterly operating profit, while gains from stock holdings helped the conglomerate led by billionaire Warren Buffett swing to a nearly $36 billion overall profit. Rising interest rates and dividend payouts, as well as a rebound in performance at the Geico car insurer, have been helping Berkshire's insurance businesses generate more money, with profit up 38% from a year earlier. That helped offset declines at other businesses including the BNSF railroad, where lower shipments of consumer goods and increased price competition from the trucking industry contributed to a 24% drop in overall profit.
