The G20 showed India’s foreign policy is exploring new territory
G20 summit successfully concluded in New Delhi last week, it managed to generate some positive headlines for India globally. Even India’s staunchest critics had to concede that contrary to their expectations, New Delhi managed to pull off a successful summit at a time when geopolitical and developmental fault-lines have been sharpening by the day. Despite the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin (and perhaps because of it), a large part of the world agreed and put its stamp on India’s global developmental priorities.

India held exceptionally organised G20 Summit, lot of responsibility for Brazil as host next year...: Lula da Silva
Lula da Silva on Monday said that Brazil will put the inequality issue as the core issue during the G20 Summit under its Presidency and said it was a huge challenge for Brazil to take over the G20 presidency. «We will put inequality at the top: inequality of gender, race, education, health, poverty and hunger. The world needs balance,» the Brazilian President said addressing a press conference today after the conclusion of the two-day long G20 Summit in New Delhi on Sunday. «I'm one of the founder member of G20,» said Lula da Silva pointing out that an important meeting like the G20 showed the importance of the multipolar world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 10 handed over the ceremonial gavel to Lula, intiating the process of transition of the President's chair for the next round of the G20 to be held in Brazil. «I would like to congratulate India for organising the Summit exceptionally well.

'I don't want to contain China': Joe Biden
Joe Biden insisted Sunday he does not want to «contain» China, as the two powers face deepening divisions on trade, security and rights. Biden said he had met Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the G20 summit in New Delhi — a meeting the White House had not announced — and discussed «stability». The president revealed the encounter in Hanoi, where earlier in the day he agreed a deal to deepen ties with Vietnam as Washington looks to bolster its network of allies around Asia and the Pacific in the face of Beijing's rising influence. Washington and Beijing are at loggerheads on a range of global issues, and Biden accused China of seeking to bend the international order to its will. «One of the things that is going on now is China is beginning to change some of the rules of the game, in terms of trade and other issues,» Biden told a news conference. Washington has invested heavily in building alliances as part of its Indo-Pacific strategy, including the Quad security dialogue with India, Australia and Japan, and the AUKUS pact with Britain and Australia. But he insisted the United States is not seeking to box China in, but rather to establish clear ground rules for relations. «I don't want to contain China.

G-20 shown unmistakable symbol of India’s rise at group photo
Narendra Modi welcomed world leaders to the Raj Ghat memorial complex in central Delhi on Sunday, site of the eternal flame that burns for Mahatma Gandhi. Symbolism is hard to escape in the so-called family photograph. It’s a G-20 tradition that offers a rare, unvarnished glimpse of the interaction between leaders — the warmth or chill of greetings, the backslapping, side chats, scowls or moments of awkwardness — and so points to the state of world relations. Also Read: G20 Summit 2023 LIVE: We are always there to push back against hatred, says Trudeau on Khalistani issue Absent from this year’s lineup were China’s President Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, both of whom skipped the summit amid tensions with the US and its allies.
