markets Citi Platform Research Trade 2020 reports How the advent of e-commerce has reinvented the growth of traditional retail
Employment and Consumer Welfare’ released on Wednesday. The report’s findings are principally based on a panIndia survey of 2,062 online vendors, 2,031 brick-and-mortar vendors, and 8,209 consumers of products from ecommerce websites. It was conducted across 35 cities in 20 states and UTs. The survey itself was guided by a robust methodology and conducted by PRICE (People Research on India’s Consumer Economy). Given the veracity of the survey findings, it would be most useful for policymakers to take cognisance of these empirical findings. One of the most striking takeaway is that the apocalypse narrative of large-scale destruction of kirana stores is rejected by brick-and-mortar vendors themselves. The survey asked vendors if they were aware of any physical stores that had shut down in their vicinity since 2020, and what they thought the contributing reasons were. Less than 20% reported a physical store closure in their neighbourhood since 2020 when the pandemic drove an ecommerce boom. Only 6% of offline vendors attributed these store closures to consumers shifting to online shopping. A slightly higher proportion — 8% — attributed physical store closures to the growth of large organised retail.

Man Action Remark Justice 2020 reports Courts Delhi HC orders man to publicly apologise to Alt News co-founder Zubair for 'Jihadi' remark
Delhi High Court on Thursday ordered Jagdish Singh to post an apology on X for labeling Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair as a «jihadi» in a post from four years ago, reported TOI. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani's single-judge bench directed Singh to issue the apology within a week and keep it on X for at least two months. The directive followed a 2020 petition by Zubair seeking to dismiss a Delhi Police FIR after Singh accused him of cyber sexual harassment related to a retweet of Singh’s granddaughter's blurred photo. Delhi Police had cleared Zubair of wrongdoing in the case, according to the TOI repot. The court stated that Zubair would not pursue further action against Singh once the apology was posted, and Singh must include the specific text: «I regret making the above comment which was not made with any malice or intention to hurt or offend Mohammed Zubair,» referring to Singh's original tweet claiming «Once a jihadi is always jihadi.»

Provident Aware Action Strategy Sustainability Universities 2020 Time is running out to address climate change concerns, says IIT Mumbai professor
Chetan Singh Solanki has stressed the urgent need for energy conservation and a global shift to renewable energy to tackle climate change. Highlighting the lack of climate awareness among the youth, Solanki advocated for the «Avoid, Minimize, Generate» strategy as key to mitigating the crisis. The IIT professor was speaking at a lecture session hosted by Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University on 'Environment-Friendly Energy Product Startups.' The lecture provided a comprehensive '6-Point Understanding' of climate change, focusing on the challenges and necessary corrective actions. Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the session, Prof. Solanki said many young people are increasingly unaware of climate change, with some not even discussing the issue. He attributed this to the lack of emphasis or discussion from influential figures in their lives, such as parents, teachers, professors, influencers, and spiritual leaders. Even when climate change is addressed, it is often only at a superficial level, leaving young people with a shallow understanding of the issue.
