Cracking open peanuts
peanuts is a simple pleasure that mixes action with taste. As you grip the smooth shell between your fingers, there's an anticipation, a thrill in the impending release of the hidden treasure within. The satisfying crack as the shell yields to pressure is music to the ears, followed by the revelation of the tightly packed kernel nestled inside. The act engages multiple senses. The faint aroma of roasted nuts tickles the nostrils, heightening what is to come. The shell's woody texture resists, before giving way to smoothness. And, finally, taste of the nut itself, with its rich, earthy flavour, rewards the effort expended. Cracking open peanuts also fosters a sense of camaraderie and conviviality. Whether shared at sports grounds or picnics, or as a snack among friends, the communal act of sharing peanuts with shells brings people together, sparking conversation and laughter.

World Water Day 2024: Close the tap before it's dry
Rationing and containment of water until sources fill up are temporary measures. Given how water and climate issues are linked, we need to plan strategically and well into the future — not just how to augment supply of fresh water but also how to use it wisely and sparingly. Decades back, agriculture was termed a 'gamble on the monsoon'. Earlier, with surface water being tapped through canal irrigation systems, parts of India were somewhat insulated from this. However, groundwater, which was supposed to be a reserve for challenging times, became a primary resource.

Centre likely to notify MGNREGS wage revision, calls it 'routine' exercise
Rural Development Ministry may notify revision in wage rates under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and it has received a clearance from the Election Commission as the poll code is in force, sources said on Thursday. Though ministry officials refused to comment on the issue in view of the model code of conduct (MCC) being in place after the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll schedule, they said it is a «routine» matter and that ministries approach the EC for clearances when the model code is in place. According to a source, the changes in rates are to be notified for the upcoming financial year starting April 1. «It's the regular process of revision of rates every financial year from April 1. The ministry has taken permission from the EC for notifying it,» the source said.

Baghel mustn't be afraid of probe in Mahadev app 'scam' if he is innocent: Chhattisgarh CM
Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel must not be afraid of an investigation against him in the alleged Mahadev betting app scam if he is innocent. In an interview with PTI as his government completed 100 days in power on Thursday, Sai exuded confidence the BJP would win all 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state as people are eager to see Narendra Modi as prime minister for a third term. He, however, added his party is not overconfident and does not consider the opposition weak. Asked about Baghel claiming he was being implicated in the Mahadev online betting app case, Sai said the former CM should not be scared at all if he is innocent. The state Economic Offence Wing (EOW) earlier this month registered a case against Baghel and 18 others in the betting app «scam» on a report submitted by the ED, which has been probing the alleged money laundering part. Asked about alleged selective action against Baghel, Sai said «an accused never admits his/her offence.» Speaking about the works of his government, which came to power following the Assembly polls in November last year, the 60-year-old Sai said he had launched the BJP's Lok Sabha campaign from Bastar on Wednesday and the massive turnout in sensitive areas like Narayanpur showed the level of people's support for the party.

Govt issues fresh categorisation of LWE-hit areas, 12 out of 38 are 'most affected districts'
districts affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) across 10 states after their number came down by almost half in the past nine years, officials said on Thursday. Sharing the list with the director generals of police concerned, the officials said a total of 38 districts across these 10 states are categorised as LWE-affected with effect from April 1, 2024 compared to 75 in 2015. The categorisation of the LWE-affected districts in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal provide the basis for deployment of resources under the National Policy and Action Plan, approved in 2015, to combat LWE holistically. The Centre and the state governments have been working closely to tackle this problem. A number of interventions are being made, both security and development related, as a result of which there has been a marked improvement in the LWE scenario, the officials said.
