Delhi police inspected the trucks carrying non-essential goods at the Ghazipur and Tikri borders on Friday night, as the GRAP 4 regulations are in place. Another team of Delhi Police at the Tikri border checked the trucks entering the national capital. This development comes as the city on Friday saw a marginal improvement in the toxic air following spells of sudden rainfall. India and USA on Friday reiterated that they stand with Israel against terrorism and called for adherence to international humanitarian law, including with regard to the protection of civilians. They called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages.

The meet called for concerted action against all terrorists, including through designations of individuals affiliated with groups listed by the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee, such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Jaish-e-Mohammed, according to statement issued after the meeting. The meet emphasised importance of upholding international standards on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism, consistent with Financial Action Task Force recommendations. Both countries reiterated their commitment to work together in FATF and other multilateral platforms and expressed determination to counter new and emerging forms of terrorism and violent extremism and the use of emerging and evolving technologies such as unmanned aerial systems and the internet for terrorist purposes. The ministers also called on the Taliban to adhere to commitment to prevent any group or individual from using Afghanistan to threaten the security of any country.

Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee Chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar has submitted the report of the panel on the 'cash-for-query' allegation against TMC MP Mahua Moitra to the office of Speaker Om Birla, sources said on Friday. The Committee, at a meeting on Thursday, had adopted by majority the report that recommended Moitra's expulsion from the House for accepting «illegal gratifications» from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to raise questions in Parliament at his behest. The committee recommended Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha for «unethical conduct» and «contempt of the House '. Six of the 10 members present at the Committee meeting on Thursday voted in support of the 479-page report while four opposition members recorded their disapproval. According to sources, Birla is in Kota and is likely to return to the national capital after Diwali (Nov 12), following which he is expected to take action on the report.

Licking their wounds, the bulls on Dalal Street made a strong comeback and the non-stop run since March-end took the Nifty 50 past the 20000-mark milestone to an all-time high of 20222.45 points. From the March lows, the index has rallied a sharp 20%. While the year brought high levels of volatility amid major global and domestic events, several stocks turned superstars, particularly in the midcap and smallcap segments. The 50-stock index has net gained more than 10% since last Diwali, but the Nifty MidSmallcap 400 index has rallied a whopping 32% in the same period.
