Tech body slams telcos for enterprise messaging stance
Broadband India Forum (BIF), a lobby for tech companies, has slammed the telcos’ stand against the use of OTT platforms such as WhatsApp, for enterprise communications, saying operators are only trying to thrust a technologically inferior and user-unfriendly product like SMS through regulatory/administrative intervention. The Broadband India Forum (BIF) said the SMS route is often unreliable due to lapses in network coverage, which is why telco customers prefer app-based messaging platforms like WhatsApp over SMS. “The telcos’ action is analogous to insisting on transportation by bullock cart when modern and more affordable automotive transportation is available and permitted,” T V Ramachandran, president, BIF, told ET. The tech forum counts Amazon, Meta (which owns WhatsApp), Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm, and Google among its key members. The BIF president added that WhatsApp and Telegram are perfectly legal and permissible products and it’s absurd to allege that some corporates are circumventing and bypassing the legal telecom route by using apps. The popularity of OTT communication platforms among users, he said, is the result of better experience.

India addresses deepfake threats: Calls for legal action and tech solutions
deepfake incident — reading the takedown rulebook to social media platforms and reminding them of the legal provisions against digital impersonation — must be backed up by vigorous prosecution against the perpetrators. Fakery, deep or shallow, is detectable, and policing it is a matter for enforcers of the law. Deepfakes require considerable computing capacity and a large digital footprint of their targets, making it easier to narrow down the search for their origin.

Breakout Stocks: How should one trade Welspun Corp, PFC and JB Chemicals on Friday
Sectorally, buying was seen in realty, auto, healthcare, and utilities while FMCG, oil & gas, IT, and consumer durable stocks saw some selling pressure. Stocks that were in focus include names like Welspun Corp which was up more than 5%, Power Finance Corporation which gained more than 5% to hit a fresh high and JB Chemicals which rose nearly 3% on Thursday. We have collated a list of three stocks that either hit a fresh 52-week high, or all-time high or saw a volume or a price breakout. We spoke to an analyst on how one should look at these stocks the next trading day entirely from an educational point of view: Here’s what analyst Kumar Saurabh, Director at Technofunda Ventures Private Limited, has to say Welspun Corp Welspun has come up with a great set of Q2 numbers and stock has been in good momentum after forming base around Rs 160-180 levels for multiple months. However, with Thursday’s price action despite creating a new high, one can observe that suppliers dominated buyers at the end of the day highlighted through a long wick at the top with huge volumes. One needs to maintain caution when looking at this. However, the stock has crossed the Rs 458 resistance level and is currently trading at Rs 480.

Iran rejects G7 calls to stop supporting Hamas
Iran on Thursday rejected a G7 statement which called on Tehran to stop supporting Hamas militants and taking actions that «destabilise» the Middle East. Tehran's comment came a day after foreign ministers from the G7 group of advanced economies, meeting in Tokyo, expressed support for «humanitarian pauses and corridors» in the Israeli-Hamas war. Israeli air strikes have pounded the Palestinian territory of Gaza since Hamas gunmen stormed across the heavily militarised border on October 7 to kill more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians, and seize around 240 hostages, according to Israeli officials. The subsequent Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza has killed more than 10,500 people, two-thirds of them women and children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The G7 also called on Iran to «refrain from providing support for Hamas and taking further actions that destabilise the Middle East, including support for Lebanese Hezbollah and other non-state actors.» On Thursday, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani «strongly condemned» the statement by the group which includes the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, Italy, France, and Japan. He said Iran has engaged in «non-stop efforts to stop military attacks of the Zionist aggressor regime (Israel) on the defenceless citizens» in Gaza.

Uttar Pradesh's air quality deteriorates to 'very poor' category
Air Quality Index (AQI) in Uttar Pradesh deteriorated from the 'poor' category to the 'very poor' category on Thursday, as per the data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In view of the worsening air quality index, the Noida and Ghaziabad district administrations on Tuesday decided to discontinue all physical classes in schools apart from those for students of Class X and XII until Friday, in view of the worsening air quality conditions. The administration suggested that schools conduct classes in online mode. Meanwhile, the neighbouring Delhi government on Monday decided to reintroduce the odd-even rule from November 13 to 20 in view of concerns about deterioration in air quality. A decision on further extending the odd-even rule would be taken later. According to the 8-point action plan, there will be a ban on entry of truck traffic into Delhi (except for trucks carrying essential commodities/ providing essential services and all LNG/ CNG/ electric trucks). The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed grave concern over the hazardous air quality in the national capital and directed that farmers should stop stubble burning forthwith in Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, saying it was one of the major contributors to air pollution. Air pollution levels can be high during the winter months for a number of reasons, including dust and vehicular pollution, dry-cold weather, stubble burning, burning crop residues after the harvest season, and commuting.
