MET FIVE Airlines Boeing cover National Financial Pakistan's national carrier grounds 11 aircraft due to financial crisis
Pakistan's cash-strapped national carrier has grounded 11 aircraft, including three of its Boeing 777s, due to unavailability of funds to carry out replacement of parts. An official in the Pakis-tan International Airlines (PIA) said the top management has grounded 11 planes in the last three years as there was a financial crisis prevailing in the airline and the increase in dollar rates and petroleum products had not helped the situation. The official, who didn't want to disclose his name, said that 11 out of 31 aircraft operated by the PIA on international and domestic routes were grounded at the Karachi and Islamabad airports. «The financial crisis has meant the airlines are not in a position to purchase spare parts since last year leading to the grounding of these aircraft gradually,» he disclosed. The previous government led by Shahbaz Sharif had appointed a new MD in PIA and unveiled its plans to privatise the national airline, an announcement which has been met with fierce resistance from the various unions in the airline. Some of the unions have gone on a strike and the official said this had not helped matters as well. Two of the three wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft were grounded in 2020 and one in 2021.

UPS Reuters Aviat Aware Airlines social Pilots Indian Indian pilots to unite to raise fatigue woes after colleague's pre-flight death
pilots plan to form an association to challenge flying duty regulations they say cause fatigue and jeopardise safety after an IndiGo pilot collapsed and died before his flight. Former pilots have taken to social media and newspaper columns to publicly raise concerns that airlines, though operating within regulatory frameworks, are stretching them to the brink as air travel booms in India. The sudden death last week of an IndiGo pilot heightened those worries although India's biggest airline says he had a 27-hour break before duty and was in good health.Captain Shakti Lumba, a retired vice president at IndiGo, has garnered the support of hundreds of pilots who plan to come together with an existing group of 600 to raise awareness and lodge concerns over fatigue with authorities and airlines. «The main focus of the group will be compliance with international standards and recommended practices, flight safety and pilot fatigue — which is a clear and present danger to (the) safety of aircraft operations in India,» said Lumba, who was involved in setting up IndiGo's operations from 2005. India's aviation watchdog did not respond to a Reuters request for comment. In the United States, regulators allow flights manned by two pilots to serve maximum duty time of 14 hours during the day and 9-10 hours for late-night flights.

Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest for international travel, announced Tuesday it served 41.6 million passengers in the first half of this year — exceeding figures for the same period in 2019 as travelers return to the air after the lockdowns of the coronavirus pandemic. The airport, home to the long-haul carrier Emirates in skyscraper-studded Dubai, long has served as a barometer for the aviation industry worldwide. The new figures at the airport known as DXB reflect figures offered by the International Air Transport Association that traffic worldwide is at 94% of pre-COVID levels. «As we recover with our (half-year) traffic surpassing pre-pandemic levels, we continue to remain committed to ensuring every guest who travels through our airport leaves with a smile,» Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said in a statement announcing the figures. The 41.6 million passengers is up some 50% from the 27.9 million recorded the same time last year, as airlines now have more planes and routes running again. Passenger traffic this year largely has been driven by the airport's standard travel destinations — India, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and Pakistan.
