IndiGo plans to expand international reach, enhance cargo operations
IndiGo plans to significantly expand its international reach and enhance its cargo operations in the coming years as part of a broader strategy to position India's largest airline as a leading global airline by 2030, chief executive Pieter Elbers said. Speaking exclusively to ET, Elbers said the airline plans to grow its international destinations to 40 from 20 by the end of the current financial year through March 2025, targeting emerging markets that are not yet well-travelled by Indian passengers. He did not comment on specific destinations, but sources suggest that new routes could include Mauritius and Al Ain.

Airline directed to pay Rs 1.67 lakh to student barred from Canada-bound flight due to Schengen visa confusion
student who was barred from boarding a Toronto-bound flight due to a visa-related issue. The incident, which involved stoppages in Munich and Frankfurt, Germany, highlighted the airline's failure to inform the passenger about the requirement of a transit Schengen visa. The case centered on Maharshi Yadav, a resident of Gandhinagar, who was traveling to Canada for further studies. Yadav, who held a valid student visa for Canada, had booked a flight from Mumbai to Toronto for April 13, 2022. The flight included layovers in Munich and Frankfurt, both in Germany. However, during check-in at Mumbai airport, the airline staff informed Yadav that he required a transit Schengen visa for the layovers, which he did not possess. Consequently, he was denied boarding. Pressed for time, Yadav cancelled the original ticket and booked an alternative flight with Emirates Airlines, costing him Rs 1.70 lakh, to reach Canada the next day. Subsequently, Yadav, through his mother and legal counsel Sunil Chhabaria, filed a complaint with the Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in Gandhinagar, alleging a deficiency in service on the part of the airline. The complaint argued that the airline had failed to notify Yadav in advance about the necessity of a transit Schengen visa for his journey.

How Netflix ‘Manifested’ maximum views for a once cancelled TV show
Netflix is infamous for cancelling many of its promising shows without a by-your-leave, the streaming giant has also given many dying shows a new lease of life. One of the best examples of a cancelled show that the OTT platform raised to overnight stardom is the American supernatural TV series ‘Manifest’. The series, which revolved around the passenger and crew of a commercial airliner that suddenly reappears after disappearing for over five years, originally premiered on the channel NBC in 2018. However, it was cancelled just after three seasons due to dwindling viewership. In June 2021, Deadline revealed that NBC had opted not to continue the drama series for a fourth season. Despite a strong start with respectable ratings when it first aired, the show's audience steadily dwindled over time, with a notable drop in viewership during its third season. However, in August 2021, Netflix acquired the rights to the series and approved a fourth season.

AI Express, Akasa rip premium seats even as no-frills IndiGo adds business class
₹3,500 over and above its regular fare, Air India Express tagged its business class seats at about ₹16,000 in the Delhi-Mumbai sector. That’s still lower than the ₹26,000 charged by its parent entity, the Tata Group-owned full service Air India, for a business class seat on the same route. “We would have replaced these business class seats earlier itself if these replacements were available earlier," a senior Air India Express executive said on condition of anonymity.

Ocean freight carriers are ripe to compete in the air
This type of long-term thinking and experience in dealing with tough markets — and there’s no doubt maritime shipping has been brutal historically — will serve both A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S and CMA CGM SA well as the two shipping giants seek to expand into air freight. Both companies took delivery this summer of new Boeing 777 freighters and have lined up deliveries of more Boeing Co. and Airbus SE aircraft as they build out capacity. These new aircraft represent the action behind the pledges to diversify their businesses during the height of the pandemic when customers were desperate for sea and air transportation. Both Maersk and CMA CGM have invested in the trucking side of the logistics business and are now accumulating their first new aircraft to tackle the air-freight market. Shipping rates soared during the Covid-19 lockdowns, and the influx of cash from this once-in-a-generation cycle gave marine operators the cash to diversify. Maersk earned $31 billion of operating profit in 2022 alone.

NCLT seeks Go First response on CoC decision to liquidate company
National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on Tuesday issued a notice to the suspended management of grounded budget carrier Go First, seeking its response to the Committee of Creditors' (CoC) decision to liquidate the airline. The counsel for the resolution professional (RP) informed the tribunal that the CoC had passed a resolution to liquidate Go First after finding that the resolution plans received under the insolvency resolution process were non-compliant with the law. Further, the counsel said since the CoC has already infused more than ₹200 crore in the insolvency resolution process, and with no cash being generated by the airline, the CoC has approved a resolution allowing third-party funding of the arbitration proceedings that Go First has filed against US engine maker Pratt & Whitney (P&W) at the Singapore Court of Arbitration.

After the Starliner issue and planes falling from the sky, Boeing's next big problem - a strike by 32,000 workers
Boeing has faced a plethora of negative news and nearly nothing but issues. If a new contract isn't reached by September 12, 32,000 workers may go on strike against Boeing. While Boeing struggles with its past decisions and ongoing financial issues, the union demands better wages, benefits, and job security. On September 12 at 11:59 p.m. PT, the agreement between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists is scheduled to expire. The employees who assemble the company's aircraft in Washington state are scheduled to go on strike for the first time in sixteen years if they don't get a new contract. The union's president believes that there is currently little chance of a deal. The major issues that divide them are pay, health care, retirement, and vacation time, according to Jon Holden, the president of IAM District 751, who spoke with CNN last week. They're still working on it, but it's been a difficult process to get there.
