The G20 showed India’s foreign policy is exploring new territory
G20 summit successfully concluded in New Delhi last week, it managed to generate some positive headlines for India globally. Even India’s staunchest critics had to concede that contrary to their expectations, New Delhi managed to pull off a successful summit at a time when geopolitical and developmental fault-lines have been sharpening by the day. Despite the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin (and perhaps because of it), a large part of the world agreed and put its stamp on India’s global developmental priorities.

Taiwan tracks 9 Chinese military aircraft, 10 naval ships around nation
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) monitored nine Chinese military planes and 10 naval vessels in the vicinity of Taiwan. According to Taiwan News, there was no indication that any PLA aircraft had crossed the Taiwan Strait's middle line or entered Taiwan's southwest air defence identification zone (ADIZ) at this time. Taiwan responded by sending ships, planes, and land-based missile systems to track PLA activity. China has gradually increased the number of military planes and navy ships operating near Taiwan since September 2020, expanding its use of grey zone techniques, Taiwan News reported. A grey zone tactic generally refers to «An effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that attempts to achieve one's security objectives without resorting to direct and substantial use of force.» Beijing has conducted 109 navy ship sorties and launched 199 military aircraft around Taiwan so far this month.

Retailers see 25% surge in pre-bookings for iPhone 15
Apple's iPhone 15 may have a blockbuster launch in India, with advance bookings for the new series, which started Friday, already exceeding by 20-25% the numbers that the previous model received during the entire seven-day pre-order period last year, chief executives of leading retailers said. The most in-demand variants are the base iPhone 15 and the costliest iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is priced between Rs 1,59,900 and 1,99,900. Apple is also going to have its highest ever launch-phase stock of 270,000-300,000 units, or double of what it had last year for the iPhone 14 series, they said. Some retailers said they took pre-bookings right from the next day of the product unveiling due to the craze towards Apple's smartphones, even though official pre-bookings started this Friday at 3 pm.

Air India introduces tool in rostering system to help mitigate fatigue among pilots
Air India has introduced a tool in its rostering system that will help in mitigating fatigue among pilots as well as put in place various initiatives to ensure the stability of rosters and minimise disruptions. These moves by the Tata Group-owned full-service carrier also come at a time when there are rising concerns in certain quarters about fatigue among pilots and ways to deal with the issue amid rising air traffic and flights. In his weekly message to the employees on Friday, Air India chief Campbell Wilson said the airline has introduced several new initiatives in tandem that seek to increase the stability of printed rosters and minimise disruptions, utilise standby blocks optimally, and set up efficient communications channels. Mentioning about the safety protocols being introduced in all aspects of the airline's operations, Wilson said, «We launched Coruson a few weeks ago, which was followed by the Boeing Alertness Model (BAM)3, the fatigue mitigating tool in our Jeppesen rostering system, that will prevent publishing fatiguing rosters and pairings». During a Jeppesen Crew Ambassadors' session on Thursday, Wilson said there were detailed discussions as well as questions on pairings/rostering, fairness, crew welfare and admin processes.

'Picture abhi baaki hai': On her 40th birthday, Edelweiss Asset Management CEO Radhika Gupta assures followers 'the best is yet to come'
Radhika Gupta, the CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management Company, recently pondered about turning 40. While many people feel bittersweet about turning a year older, get into a philosophical mode, or engage in nostalgia, reminiscing about the ‘good ol’ days’, Gupta was rather optimistic about turning older. Taking to LinkedIn, she wrote how, just before she turned 40, she was standing in front of the iconic BSE Towers, a 29-storey building in India’s Wall Street, the Dalal Street. She then went on to write about how she took photos with some youngsters. The entrepreneur went on to say that although she has turned older, she has no life lessons to share.
