Ministry of Civil Aviation on Wednesday said various initiatives have been taken to increase the workforce at various authorities, including DGCA, where 114 positions out of the 416 newly created posts have been filled, and the remaining will be filled in a phased manner. Besides the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), initiatives have been taken to increase the workforce at the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). DGCA employs a team of qualified and experienced aircraft/aeronautical engineers, pilots, and air traffic controllers to carry out its regulatory and oversight functions.

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday sought details of expenditure on the use of a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft by the Bhagwant Mann government, accusing it of spending public money on "luxury sorties" for AAP campaigns in other states.Sidhu wrote to the secretary of the Punjab Civil Aviation Department, seeking the information under the Right to Information Act. In a relief to Akasa Air, it further held that there are no restrictions on the DGCA to take action against pilots in case of default. The aviation regulator previously informed the Delhi HC that it lacks the authority to intervene in the employment agreements between pilots and airlines, in response to a plea by budget airline Akasa Air seeking action against those who left without serving their mandatory contractual notice period.

The move by AWG, a UK-based entity that monitors leasing and financing laws, came as bankrupt budget carrier Go First is locked in a legal tussle with aircraft lessors seeking to repossess jets. The IndiGo CEO called India as one of the most competitive aviation markets in the world and said there is also a lot of competition in the market. Elbers was speaking at the conference of the All India Management Association (AIMA) in the national capital. IndiGo is the country's largest carrier with a domestic market share of more than 63 per cent and is also expanding its international operations. The airline connects 32 international and 81 domestic destinations. Elbers said India is an incredible and one of the most competitive aviation markets in the world. IndiGo is going through a «maturing phase», he said and stressed on the need for having aviation hubs in India, which is under-served.

Celebi India may invest around USD 80 million in the business in the next four years as it eyes more airports besides enhancing cargo capacity, a top company executive has said. The company, which offers ground handling services and cargo operations, also plans to switch to an all-electric fleet across the airports it renders services at present, according to Murali Ramachandran, President for India & S-E Asia at Celebi Aviation Holdings, said. The company currently has the mandate to provide ground handling services at nine airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Mopa (Goa) and Kannur — and handle cargo operations at Delhi airport through a joint venture with Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). «Celebi has already invested around USD 250 million (since its entry in the Indian market in 2007).
