Korean Air to weigh passengers on domestic, international flights
Korean Air has announced its compliance with aviation regulations by introducing passenger and carry-on luggage weight checks during the boarding process for both domestic and international flights. The airline's plan involves applying a standardized weight measurement to passengers, inclusive of their carry-on bags. According to a Korea Times report, this initiative will first be rolled out for domestic passengers at Gimpo International Airport from August 28 to September 6, followed by international passengers at Incheon International Airport from September 8 to September 19. The data collected from these checks will remain anonymous and will primarily serve safety operations purposes, ensuring adherence to proper weight distribution within the aircraft. Passengers who choose not to participate in these weight measurements can easily communicate their decision to the airline staff during the boarding process. This move aligns with the guidelines set out in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's «Aircraft Weight and Balance Management Standards,» which necessitate airlines to periodically measure passenger standard weights to establish accurate weight and balance calculations for aircraft. While the weight standards were determined at 81 kg for adult males and 69 kg for adult females in a local 2017 survey, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prescribes slightly higher figures of 88.4 kg for adult males and 70.3 kg for adult females.

DGCA inspection finds lapses in Air India's internal safety audits
DGCA) has found lapses in internal safety audits of Air India and the regulator is probing the matter, according to officials. When contacted, an Air India spokesperson said that all airlines are subject to regular safety audits by regulators and other bodies. «Air India actively engages in such audits to continually assess and strengthen our processes,» the spokesperson said in a statement and added that the airline directly addresses any matters raised with the authority concerned. According to the inspection report submitted to the DGCA, the airline was supposed to carry out regular safety spot checks in various areas of operations such as cabin surveillance, cargo, ramp and load but during a random inspection of 13 safety points, the team found that the airline prepared false reports in all 13 cases. «Moreover, when cross-verified with CCTV, recordings, auditee statements, shift register documents, GD (General Declaration) list, passenger manifest etc, it is understood that all the aforesaid 13 spot checks shown to be carried out in stations Mumbai, Goa and Delhi were verified and were established to have not been actually performed,» the two-member team said in the 'Deficiency Reporting Form' (DRF).

Putin delivers mixed tribute to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin after deadly plane crash
Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to the family of Yevgeny Prigozhin on Thursday, breaking his silence after the mercenary leader's plane crashed with no survivors two months after he led a mutiny against army chiefs. Putin's comments, which suggested he harboured decidedly mixed feelings about Wagner's mercenary boss, were the most definitive yet on Prigozhin's fate. Before he spoke, the only official statement had come from the aviation authority which said Prigozhin had been on board the downed plane. Russian investigators have opened a probe into what happened, but have not yet said what they suspect caused the plane to suddenly fall from the sky northwest of Moscow on Wednesday evening. Nor have they officially confirmed the identities of the 10 bodies recovered from the wreckage. U.S.

Indian airports emerging as key transit hubs: IndiGo
Mint in an exclusive interview. “Earlier, the Indian airports were merely destination airports, but today we find a rising trend of people flying from one part of the world and come to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, and take another onward flight without really exiting into any Indian city. That trend is increasing," Vinay Malhotra, head of global sales at IndiGo, said.

Air India pilots'' grouping flags fatigue concerns over new rostering system
Air India pilots' grouping has raised fatigue concerns in the wake of flight crew rosters generated using a new rostering tool, saying that extended waiting periods between duty time will jeopardise crew alertness and performance. «Extended waiting periods, occurring before active flight duties, run counter to enhancing crew readiness and, in fact, contribute to the accumulation of fatigue over time,» the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) has said. In a letter to Air India Head of Safety Henry Donohoe last week, IPG said it has been recently observed that the relentless pursuit of operational efficiency and economic gains has led to an unintended overshadowing of the primary intent behind Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) regulations. The Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) are laid down by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to ensure adequate res timings for pilots and cabin crew staff. The issue of fatigue among pilots is in focus following the death of an IndiGo pilot recently.

New Boeing 737 MAX supplier defect to delay aircraft deliveries
Boeing has recently identified a new 737 MAX quality problem involving supplier Spirit AeroSystems that has resulted in improperly drilled holes on the aft pressure bulkhead, the planemaker said on Wednesday. Boeing said the defect will delay near-term deliveries and the company is evaluating whether it could cause it to miss its annual delivery target of at least 400 737s this year. Boeing shares were down 2.7% and Spirit shares fell 6.1% in afterhours trading. The new supply-chain snag is the latest issue to impede deliveries of the cash-generating MAX following Boeing's disclosure of a problem in April that Spirit had improperly installed brackets joining the aft fuselage to the vertical tail. Boeing confirmed that the latest issue will delay the first MAX 8 delivery to Malaysia Airlines, which had scheduled an Aug.
