According to a Korea Times report, this initiative will first be rolled out for domestic passengers at Gimpo International Airport from August 28 to September 6, followed by international passengers at Incheon International Airport from September 8 to September 19. The data collected from these checks will remain anonymous and will primarily serve safety operations purposes, ensuring adherence to proper weight distribution within the aircraft. Passengers who choose not to participate in these weight measurements can easily communicate their decision to the airline staff during the boarding process. This move aligns with the guidelines set out in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's «Aircraft Weight and Balance Management Standards,» which necessitate airlines to periodically measure passenger standard weights to establish accurate weight and balance calculations for aircraft. While the weight standards were determined at 81 kg for adult males and 69 kg for adult females in a local 2017 survey, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prescribes slightly higher figures of 88.4 kg for adult males and 70.3 kg for adult females.
