Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea cumulatively lost over one crore wireless subscribers in September, even as state-owned BSNL surprised with net adds of almost 8.5 lakh mobile users, as per monthly data released by TRAI. Reliance Jio lost 79.69 lakh mobile subscribers in September compared to the previous month, Bharti Airtel (14.34 lakh users), and Vodafone Idea (15.53 lakh users). Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 8.49 lakh users to its wireless subscriber tally. The wireless subscriber base of Reliance Jio stood at 46.37 crore in September, while that of Bharti Airtel was 38.34 crore. The wireless user base of Vodafone Idea was 21.24 crore as of September 2024.

Coal import by non-regulated sectors (NRS) dropped 9.83 per cent to 63.28 million tonnes (MT) in the April-September period of the ongoing financial year, the government on Wednesday said. The coal import by NRS was 70.18 MT in year-ago period. The coal import by domestic thermal power plants for blending purpose also declined 8.59 per cent to 9.79 MT in the April-September period from 10.71 MT a year ago. «This demonstrates an increased reliance on domestic coal supplies for these sectors,» the coal ministry said in a statement.

Equity investments in Indian real estate may rise 49 per cent to USD 11 billion this calendar year amid strong demand for properties, according to CII and CBRE. In 2023 calendar year, the equity investments in real estate stood at USD 7.4 billion. Industry body CII and real estate consultant CBRE on Wednesday released a joint report titled 'Leading the Charge: Crafting the Skylines of Tomorrow' at the annual CII Realty 2024 conclave. Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund has launched the Franklin India Long Duration Fund, an open-ended debt scheme that invests in instruments such that the Macaulay Duration of the portfolio is greater than seven years. The New Fund Offer (NFO) for the scheme is open for subscription and will close on December 4. The investment objective of the scheme is to generate returns by investing in debt and money market instruments, ensuring the Macaulay duration of the portfolio exceeds seven years.

NoBroker, the online real estate platform, faced significant obstacles in its early days, including physical threats from traditional brokers angered by the company's disruptive business model, CEO Amit Kumar Agarwal revealed at the Technovate for India program in Bengaluru. In 2015, a group of brokers attacked NoBroker's office, assaulting employees and attempting to force their way into the building. This incident, Agarwal shared, forced the company to relocate overnight and keep their office locations unlisted on Google Maps for safety. The state government stated that to give the existing Karimganj district a distinct identity which justifies its richcultural heritage, Cabinet has approved renaming Karimganj as Sribhumi district. “Over a 100 years ago, Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore had described modern day Karimganj District in Assam as ‘Sribhumi’- the land of Maa Lakshmi. Today the AssamCabinet has fulfilled this long-standing demand of our people.” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “Restoring the Old Glory of Assam's Southernmost district Karimganj district is now Sribhumi. Honouring the vision of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore who named the current geographical of undivided India as Sribhumi, Assam Cabinet has decided to rename Karimganj as Sribhumi district.
