ET Awards: ET honour most sought after, says L&T’s AM Naik
Economic Times Lifetime Achievement Award will be the last,” he said, drawing a cheer from the star-studded audience. At 81, the grand old man of Larsen & Toubro wears his humble beginnings on his sleeve–recalling the inspirational legacy of his grandfather and father, who served the impoverished. “Their values have been passed down through generations,” he said in his acceptance speech. His father, a teacher and principal, donated funds to support a hospital in the family’s village. That was the only time he asked for any financial help, Naik said. “If you can help, help this hospital,” Naik recalled his father’s request.

ET Awards: We should look beyond speciesism — industry relies on nature, says Meera Jain, Founder, Evoke
ET Awards for Corporate Excellence came an unusual address. “My keynote today is to unlock your conscience,” said Mrs Meera Jain, founder of Evoke. Mentioning startling numbers — “1,50,000 animals perish each minute” — she outlined the Sixth Extinction, a manifestation of the Anthropocene, the era of human impacts reshaping Earth. “Humanity has wiped out 60% of the world’s wildlife since 1970,” she stated, adding ironically, “That’s thanks to Alfred Nobel’s gunpowder. So much for the Nobel Prize” However, humans can stop this apocalypse. She mentioned praiseworthy initiatives from the world of enterprise seeking to help nonhuman species. She described a visit to Vantara, the animal rescue and rehabilitation centre established by Anant Ambani. Vantara provides world-class care to species rescued from poachers, wildlife traffickers and circuses globally. Its devotion to endang e r e d a n i m a l s shows humanity at its best, she remarked. She lauded Ratan Tata’s hospital for dogs and small animals i n Mu mb a i and urged directors of Tata companies to devote more CSR funds to animal welfare.

Congress rendered financially handicapped through tax terror: Jairam Ramesh on freezing of party bank accounts
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Saturday accused the BJP-led government of conducting a "surgical strike" on his party by freezing its bank accounts ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, saying it was rendered «economically handicapped» through "tax terror". Addressing a press conference here as part of Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, he also alleged that the ruling party was illegally collecting funds through electoral bonds. The Congress' main bank accounts were frozen last month over an income tax demand of Rs 210 crore. «BJP has done a surgical strike on Congress by freezing its bank accounts ahead of the general elections. We have no money to fight polls or prepare our election campaign. Even the money collected through crowd funding cannot be used.
